Wisconsin men’s basketball now has the full map for its 2026-27 Big Ten season, and the first thing that jumps out is how the conference slate opens for Greg Gard’s group.
The Badgers begin league play on the road at Northwestern, a matchup that looks like a softer landing than most Big Ten openers. But that relief is short-lived.
Wisconsin heads back to Madison right away to host Purdue, then, after a few non-conference games, returns to conference action at home against Illinois. That gives the Badgers a pretty demanding early home stretch once Big Ten play gets rolling.
The conference schedule also appears to hand Wisconsin one stretch that looks more manageable than the rest. From Jan. 23 through early February, the Badgers will host Washington, then travel for games at Maryland and Minnesota, before returning home to play Oregon. If those teams line up with the preseason expectations attached to them, Wisconsin could have a real chance to come out of that four-game run with a 3-1 mark.
Still, there’s no easy week in the Big Ten, and road games can flip fast. That’s especially true in a league where surprise teams and disappointing ones seem to show up every season.
The final game of the regular season brings another familiar challenge. Wisconsin will close at Michigan State in the Breslin Center, continuing a recent pattern of finishing against a conference heavyweight.
In 2023-24, the Badgers ended the season at home against Purdue and lost 78-70. Last season, they also finished with the Boilermakers, only this time Wisconsin went into Mackey Arena and stunned Purdue on senior day.
With the Big Ten schedule now in place and the non-conference slate finalized in early August, Wisconsin has its full 2026-27 road ahead. For a team entering the 12th year of the Greg Gard era in Madison, the next season is officially set.

Wisconsins Big Ten path looks a little kinder on paper than it could have been, and in a league where the grind rarely eases up, that matters. The Badgers avoid road trips to Purdue, Nebraska and Michigan, which gives them a cleaner travel slate than many of their conference rivals and trims away some of the leagues toughest environments.
