Wisconsin's Jack Janicki Reflects on Season's End and Future Plans

Despite an early end to Wisconsin's season and personal setbacks, Jack Janicki reflects on his pivotal role and the deep bonds forged with teammates.

**PORTLAND, Oregon - In the heart of March Madness, Wisconsin's season came to an unexpected close on Thursday. Redshirt sophomore guard Jack Janicki, sidelined by injury since mid-February, stood by his teammates in the locker room, embodying the spirit of camaraderie that defines college basketball.

Despite his absence from the court, Janicki took a moment to reflect on the season and the bonds formed along the way. **

Janicki’s journey was halted during the Ohio State game, and while he longed to return and help his team push further in the tournament, it’s the friendships and shared experiences that he cherishes most.

“Every year here, especially the last two, I’ve been lucky to meet guys who’ve become some of my closest friends,” Janicki shared. “Losing in the tournament hurts, but it’s the daily interactions with my teammates that I’ll miss the most. Those moments at practice, in hotels, those are what really matter.”

The Badgers may not have reached their ultimate goal, but they showed resilience as the season progressed. After a shaky start, Wisconsin found its groove, notching impressive wins over top ten teams and a significant victory at Purdue’s Mackey Arena-an arena known for its challenging atmosphere.

Reflecting on the season, Janicki noted, “Early on, like against Nebraska and Villanova, we struggled with cohesion. But credit to us and the coaching staff for figuring things out.

We secured four of the best wins nationwide this year. I truly believed we could make a deep run, and I hoped to return and contribute.”

Despite the tournament’s unpredictability, the Badgers gave themselves a fighting chance, a testament to their growth and determination.

Janicki takes immense pride in donning the Badgers uniform, especially excelling on defense. As a former walk-on who redshirted, he’s become a vital part of the team’s rotation.

Looking ahead to the 2026-27 season, Janicki pondered the path forward. “It’s a complex situation with so many moving parts.

Retaining key players and enhancing our defensive roles will be crucial, especially with many first-year guys. But I have full confidence in our coaching staff to build a competitive, cohesive team.”

With a foundation of strong relationships and a commitment to improvement, Wisconsin is poised to tackle the challenges of the upcoming season, driven by the same spirit that Jack Janicki embodies both on and off the court.
