Luke Fickell’s recruiting run is rolling right into 2028, and Wisconsin has already landed a big one to open the class.
The Badgers picked up a verbal commitment from Florida linebacker Cale Britt, a 4-star prospect who chose Wisconsin over 35 other offers. Britt is already viewed as one of the top linebackers in his class and is ranked among the top 50 players in the state of Florida.
Britt’s offer list filled up fast in June, with programs such as Alabama, Michigan, Auburn, Tennessee, Penn State and Florida all getting involved. That kind of attention makes sense for a player with his projection, even if he still has plenty of high school football ahead of him. Britt has only two years of varsity experience so far, with two more seasons left before he arrives in Madison, and his ranking could still rise before he ever puts on a college uniform.
Wisconsin was in early, and that mattered. Mike Tressel got involved quickly as one of the first high-major coaches to offer Britt, and the relationship started building right away. While other schools jumped in later, the Badgers had already established a foundation that Britt clearly trusted.
His commitment video told the story in a way recruiting graphics never quite can. In the clip he shared with his family, Britt tries on an Oregon shirt and a Minnesota shirt, only to have both options shot down.
He then puts on a Wisconsin jersey and hat, walks back into the living room, and finds his family already decked out in Badgers gear. Everyone says, "Obviously!"
That lines up with what Britt told 24/7 Sports’ Zach Bolstein: "It literally just felt like home, honestly... Then also, one thing for me was every visit I went to, Wisconsin just kept -- it was stuck in the back of my head.
The way it made my heart feel, it was just amazing. I couldn't stop thinking about them, and I was like, why wait?
Why would I wait when I could just pull the trigger now?"
For now, Britt is listed as the No. 21 linebacker in the country and the No. 27 player in Florida, with a 0.8987 composite rating from 24/7 Sports.
It’s a strong start for Wisconsin’s 2028 class, and it comes with the 2027 group still not even finished yet. The Badgers already have a top-25 class for 2027, loaded with 4-star talent, including a Florida headliner. With Britt now on board, the Florida-to-Wisconsin connection is starting to look like a real theme.
