Luke Fickell’s latest win didn’t come on a Saturday afternoon. It came on the recruiting trail, where Wisconsin just landed one of the biggest names in its modern history.
Jalanie George, the one-time five-star edge rusher from Desert Edge High School in Chandler, Arizona, announced his commitment live on the Rivals YouTube channel and picked the Badgers over Washington, Auburn, and Miami (FL). For Wisconsin, it’s the kind of splashy addition that turns heads far beyond Madison.
George is now considered a consensus four-star, but he was once rated as a five-star prospect and ranked inside the national top 10. Wisconsin entered the race late, but outside linebackers coach Matt Mitchell and the Badgers kept pushing and earned a visit from George during the team’s non-conference game against Eastern Michigan.
That visit changed everything. Reports coming out of the trip were strongly positive, and the momentum quickly swung Wisconsin’s way. Before long, multiple recruiting experts were projecting the Badgers to land him.
The commitment gives Wisconsin a centerpiece for its 2028 class and a major recruiting victory at a position of real value. It also marks one of the highest-rated prospects the program has ever secured. According to his composite rating, Badger247 lists George as the No. 5 all-time commit for Wisconsin, behind only Josh Oglesby, Nolan Rucci, Logan Brown, and Anttaj Hawthorne.
Wisconsin also had a little help from inside George’s own locker room. Desert Edge teammates Yahzeen Zion and Nathan Jones are both committed to the Badgers’ 2027 class, and that connection clearly mattered.
George becomes the third member of Wisconsin’s 2028 class, joining linebacker Cale Britt and offensive lineman Brock Barrows. Even this early in the cycle, the Badgers’ class is sitting at No. 6 nationally on 247Sports and second in the Big Ten behind Ohio State.
Coming off the road win over No. 13 Penn State and now adding a prospect like George, Wisconsin is starting to look like a real national recruiting player.

Kelly Sheffield Nearly Turned A Wisconsin Rout Into A Huge Scare
Wisconsin looked like it might cruise after jumping out to a two-set lead against No. 15 Indiana at the UW Field House, but the night turned into something far more stressful before the Badgers finally came away with a five-set win. Head coach Kelly Sheffield made lineup changes that seemed to unsettle the flow, and Indiana took advantage by climbing back to even the match and putting real pressure on a Wisconsin team that had been in control early.
The Badgers did get the result they needed, and Decelise Champions late return gave Wisconsin a lift at the right time as the match tightened into a battle of nerves and momentum. Still, the way a comfortable rout nearly slipped away will give Sheffield and his staff plenty to sort through, even with a win over a ranked opponent in hand. [Read more 🡒]
Wisconsin Just Delivered A Rare Uniform Win Fans Fully Embrace
Wisconsins latest uniform reveal has landed exactly the way schools hope these things do but rarely do: with fans, former players and social media all piling on with praise. The Badgers new Red Out alternates lean into a bold all-red look, pairing it with a vintage 1970s W helmet logo and a Bucky W patch on the sleeve, a combination that feels tailored for a crowd already primed to go all-in on the theme.
The timing helps, too, with the look set for Homecoming weekend against Michigan State, when the fan-led red out should make Camp Randall feel even more coordinated. For a program that tends to treat tradition carefully, this one has struck a rare balance between fresh and familiar, and the early reaction suggests Wisconsin may have found a uniform that works well beyond the novelty of a one-off reveal. Wisconsin Escaped Penn State But One Problem Could Burn Them Next Week
Wisconsin left Penn State with a win, but the kind of win that leaves plenty to clean up. The Badgers were sloppy in spots, piling up nine penalties for 52 yards while Penn State was flagged only three times for 15, and they also lost the non-quarterback rushing battle in a game where execution mattered more than style points.
Even with the mess, Wisconsin found a way to rally after its quarterback threw three interceptions, including a pick-six. That escape might buy some breathing room for the moment, but it also puts the focus right back on the same areas that could get costly again if the Badgers dont tighten them up soon. [Read more 🡒]
