The Badgers didn’t just keep feeding Henry, either. Chris Brooks Jr. caught three passes for 91 yards and a score, while Bowling Green transfer Jacob Harris added three receptions for 89 yards.
Wisconsin’s receivers had room to work, and they took full advantage.
The defense also gave the coaches plenty to like. One of the lingering questions around the Luke Fickell era has been why that unit hasn’t consistently played at a high level.
In this one, it answered with three turnovers, including a strip six from Sebastain Cheeks. After a rough opening stretch, the group settled in and made life miserable for Eastern Michigan quarterback Noah Kim, especially as the game moved along.
If there was a loser in the box score, it was the “Fire Fickell” crowd. That group had some early fuel when Wisconsin came out slowly against an opponent it should have handled, but the Badgers’ surge quickly changed the tone. The comeback from that rough start didn’t erase every concern, but it did push that criticism back for the moment.
Fickell still has to prove this can carry over when the competition gets tougher. For now, though, Wisconsin can point to a dominant win, a record-setting day from Henry, a strong showing from Joseph and a defense that finally looked disruptive.
