Second Badgers Player Enters Portal As Shift Grows

Badgers Face Roster Shifts as Second Player Joins Transfer Portal Amid Promising 2024 Recruits

The Wisconsin Badgers' basketball program is navigating a significant transition as they see changes within their Class of 2024 recruits. Highlighting this class was four-star point guard Daniel Freitag, one of the most highly-touted recruits in the program's history. Freitag, hailing from Minnesota, initially played 14 games as a freshman before making a surprising move to Buffalo via the transfer portal.

Joining Freitag in that 2024 class were three-star forward Jack Robison and Italian center Riccardo Greppi. Despite limited playing time in their freshman year, both chose to stick it out for another season at Wisconsin.

However, Robison recently became the first Badger to enter the transfer portal this offseason. With an average of just 1.8 minutes over 30 games, Robison is looking for a fresh start and will have two years of eligibility at his next stop.

His departure opens up a scholarship spot for the Badgers to fill.

Adding to the shake-up, Riccardo Greppi also decided to enter the transfer portal over the weekend. Greppi, who saw only 1.4 minutes per game across 14 appearances, marks the end of Wisconsin’s 2024 recruiting class after just two seasons.

Both Robison and Greppi were facing tough competition for playing time in the upcoming 2026 season. With Wisconsin poised to utilize the transfer portal and a solid core of returning players, the path to significant minutes was challenging for these young athletes. Now, the Badgers have the opportunity to retool and reshape their roster as they look to build on their existing foundation.
