When Camren Hunter made the leap to the Wisconsin Badgers, fans were buzzing about his potential. Hunter brought an impressive resume from Central Arkansas, where he was named the 2021-22 Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year, averaging 14.1 points per game. He built on that success the following season, upping his average to 16.9 points and earning third-team All-Atlantic Sun honors.
However, a foot injury sidelined Hunter for the 2023-24 season, leading him to transfer to Wisconsin. Unfortunately, his time with the Badgers didn't pan out as hoped.
Appearing in just 11 games, mostly in the closing moments, Hunter struggled to find his footing. After the season, he opted to return to Central Arkansas.
Now, Hunter is back in the spotlight. After a stellar comeback season with the Bears, he's entering the transfer portal once again.
This time, his performance is turning heads. Averaging 19.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists, he was named Atlantic Sun Player of the Year and was a unanimous first-team selection.
Hunter's leadership propelled the Bears to the Atlantic Sun championship game, where they narrowly lost to Queens University 98-93 in overtime. But it was Hunter's record-breaking 49-point performance that truly stole the show.
As he enters the transfer portal, Hunter is catching the eye of major programs. Kentucky, a powerhouse in need of a true point guard, is reportedly interested.
The big question is whether Hunter can translate his success to a higher level of competition. With his proven track record, he's certainly a player to watch.
