Milwaukee Admirals Stun Manitoba Moose 4-0 in Front of 7,000 Kids

Despite a spirited start in front of thousands of school children, the Manitoba Moose couldn't overcome the Milwaukee Admirals, facing a tough 4-0 defeat at home.

The Moose kicked off their homestand with an energetic school-day game, drawing over 7,000 enthusiastic kids from across Manitoba. The atmosphere was electric as the Moose, sitting at 4-2-0 and tied for third in the Central with the Stars, took to the ice.

David Gustafsson was notably absent, dealing with an ailment, but it's not a recall situation. The Jets haven't made any roster moves ahead of their trip to Boston, sticking with their current 12/7 configuration.

In roster news, the Moose are welcoming 2024 second-round pick Alfons Freij to Winnipeg, joining the team as part of the usual influx of NCAA undrafted free agents around this time of year.

The Moose lineup featured:

  • Shaw-Ford-Di Giuseppe
  • Chibrikov-Yager-Duehr
  • JAD-Zhilkin-Fagemo
  • Wagner-Julien-Barlow

On defense:

  • Sautner-Bauer
  • Phillips-Anhorn
  • Clague-Barteaux

In goal was Thomas Milic.

The game got off to a rocky start for the Moose. Goalie Thomas Milic faced interference, leading to the first goal against. Shortly after, another controversial play saw the puck slip past him, putting the Moose in a 2-0 hole just under three minutes into the game.

Jets prospect Danny Zhilkin had his first on-ice scrap, which felt more like an MMA bout than a traditional hockey fight. Meanwhile, Ryder Rolston showcased a shot reminiscent of his dad, Brian Rolston, forcing a stellar save from Milic.

Defenseman Tyrel Bauer nearly netted a couple of goals during a chaotic sequence, including a near-miss on a plinko-style attempt, but the second period ended without a Moose goal.

Ultimately, the Moose couldn't find their footing, falling 4-0 to the Admirals. Despite the loss, the young fans in attendance brought an infectious energy to the rink. The Admirals closed the gap in the standings, now just five points behind the Moose.

The Moose will look to regroup as they prepare to hit the ice again tomorrow night.
