The Moose kicked off their four-game homestand last weekend, taking three of four points from the Wranglers. However, they knew a stronger effort was needed this weekend against their division rivals, the Wild, who are currently at the bottom of the Central standings.
Lineup News:
With four players still with the Jets, it opened the door for Dylan Anhorn, Dawson Barteaux, and Fabian Wagner to get back into the action.
Moose Lineup:
- Shaw - Gustafsson - Chibrikov
- JAD - Zhilkin - Fagemo
- Lambert - Ford - Di Giuseppe
- Barlow - Yager - Wagner
- Sautner - Bauer
- Phillips - Barteaux
- Anhorn - Clague
- Milic
Game Highlights:
The Moose found themselves trailing early, but the penalty kill unit stepped up big time in the first period. Isaak Phillips tied the game with his fourth goal of the season, thanks to a slick pass from Jets prospect Danny Zhilkin, who showed some serious skill in the Manitoba end.
Just over two minutes later, Zhilkin was at it again, making a brilliant play to score his 10th goal of the season-marking the first time he’s hit double digits in goals.
In the third period, with the Moose at the end of a shift, Isaak Phillips was caught out of gas, allowing Tyler Pitlick to slip past and score through the five-hole on Thomas Milic, tying the game.
Overtime brought heartache for the Moose as a miscue allowed Winnipegger Carson Lambos to seal the win for the Wild, defeating the Moose 3-2. It wasn’t the best display of how to handle a 2-on-1 situation for Manitoba.
The Moose are still searching for their first OT win of the season. On the bright side, they’ve earned points in three straight games, inching a point closer to the Stars in third place, with four games in hand.
Standout Performances:
- Danny Zhilkin: 1 Goal, 1 Assist
- Jaret Anderson-Dolan: 2 Assists
Looking Ahead:
The Moose will have a chance for redemption with a rematch scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. Puck drop is at 2 PM CST.
