Jets Suddenly Have A Nino Niederreiter Problem To Solve

With veteran forward Nino Niederreiter on the trading block, the Winnipeg Jets are actively negotiating with multiple teams to revamp their lineup and bolster their offensive capabilities.

The Winnipeg Jets have put veteran forward Nino Niederreiter on the trade market, according to multiple sources confirmed to TFP.

Niederreiter, 34, is in the last season of a three-year, $12 million deal and has no no-trade protection. Winnipeg is not moving him to create extra cap room, either.

The Jets already have a little more than $8.3 million in salary cap space. Instead, the fit has simply run its course, and the club is looking for a new landing spot for Niederreiter while also checking the market for a top-six winger, according to TFP’s David Pagnotta.

Multiple teams have already been contacted, including clubs in the Eastern Conference, but a deal does not appear close as Friday approaches.

Niederreiter’s production has dipped after back-to-back solid goal totals, with 17 goals in 2024-25 and 18 goals in 2023-24, respectfully. Last season, he finished with 19 points in 61 games, and he has gone scoreless through eight games with Winnipeg this season.

It is not clear whether the Jets would be willing to keep part of Niederreiter’s salary in any deal. They do have all three of their retention slots open.

In a separate note, the Detroit Red Wings posted that Dylan Larkin, 30, has skated in 10 games this season and has two goals and four assists for six points.

Over 818 career NHL regular-season games, all with Detroit, Larkin has totaled 278 goals and 371 assists for 649 points, along with 503 penalty minutes.

Jets Skid Gets More Frustrating After Another Late Collapse Vs Panthers

The Jets search for a clean reset hit another rough patch Tuesday night, and this one carried a little extra weight because it came with a new face in goal. Nico Daws made his first start for Winnipeg after being acquired from New Jersey last week, and he was busy from the opening stretches as Florida kept pushing and eventually pulled away for a 5-2 win. Seth Jones chipped in a goal and two assists for the Panthers, while Akira Schmid backed up the effort with 22 saves for his third straight victory.

Anton Lundell was the difference-maker, scoring his first career hat trick in a game that kept slipping farther from Winnipeg in the closing minutes. The Jets have now lost eight straight, and the latest defeat had the kind of late unraveling that makes a skid feel even longer, especially with another chance to steady things disappearing in the final stretch. Jets Face Mounting Pressure As Losing Streak Follows Them To Florida

The Jets arrive in Sunrise carrying far more baggage than they expected on this road trip. Winnipeg has dropped seven straight, and the offense has not been able to provide enough support to steady the group as the losses pile up. Now the challenge shifts to Florida, where the Panthers are rested and opening a three-game homestand, adding another layer of difficulty for a team trying to stop the slide.

For Winnipeg, the concern goes beyond one bad night or one missed chance. The lineup is already dealing with injuries, and the margin for error gets thinner when the goals dry up and the schedule keeps moving. The Jets have already seen how quickly Florida can punish mistakes, and this rematch offers another test of whether they can tighten up enough to keep the trip from getting worse. [Read more 🡒]

Jets Prospects Put Hot Start To The Test In Rockford

The Manitoba Moose are wrapping up a six-game road trip with a stop in Rockford, and the early returns have been encouraging for a Winnipeg organization that has been looking for its prospects to take a step. October has been a strong month for Manitoba, with the club piling up offense and getting contributions throughout the lineup while it heads into one more test before returning home in early November.

The Moose have been one of the AHLs most productive teams so far, and the challenge now is carrying that pace into a different building against the IceHogs. For the Jets, the bigger picture is whether this hot start is a sign of something sustainable, especially with another road swing waiting after the brief home stop. [Read more 🡒]
