Jets Shake Up Lineup Vs Avalanche With One Notable Player Left Out

The Winnipeg Jets shake up their lines as they prepare to take on the Colorado Avalanche, with key players shuffled and Stuart Skinner returning to guard the net.

The Winnipeg Jets are turning over several parts of their lineup for Wednesday night’s meeting with the Colorado Avalanche at Canada Life Centre, with changes coming up front, on defense and in goal.

Stuart Skinner is back in the crease after Clay Stevenson got the start in Winnipeg’s game Monday night in Pittsburgh. Skinner had started the Jets’ first two games and picked up his first win with the club in the 3-2 victory over Detroit on Sunday, when he turned aside 33 of 35 shots.

Up front, Kyle Connor, Mark Scheifele and Cole Perfetti stay together on the top line, while Isak Rosén, Viggo Björck and Gabriel Vilardi remain the second unit.

The shuffle starts with the third line, where Alex Iafallo moves up alongside Morgan Barron and Adam Lowry. That pushes Brad Lambert down to the fourth line with Cole Koepke and Vladislav Namestnikov. Koepke is set for his first regular-season action of the year.

Winnipeg will also scratch Nino Niederreiter, with Haydn Fleury and Tyrel Bauer joining him in the press box. Bauer is out of the lineup after appearing in Winnipeg’s first two games. He made his NHL debut in Friday’s season opener and fought Keegan Kolesar in Sunday’s 3-2 win over Detroit.

The defensive pairs are getting a new look as well. Josh Morrissey will skate with Neal Pionk on the top pair, Dylan Samberg will be paired with Dylan DeMelo, and Mario Ferraro and Jack St. Ivany will make up the third pairing.

Skinner gets the nod in goal, and the rest of Winnipeg’s projected lineup looks like this:

Rosén-Björck-Vilardi

Barron-Lowry-Iafallo

Koepke-Namestnikov-Lambert

Morrissey-Pionk

Samberg-DeMelo

Ferraro-St. Ivany

Skinner

Healthy scratches: Fleury, Bauer, Niederreiter

Injured: Salomonsson

Moose Just Gave The Jets A Prospect Boost Worth Watching

The Manitoba Moose have opened their 2026-27 season in a way that gives the Jets organization something to monitor closely, starting with a pair of wins over the Chicago Wolves. The weekend featured a shutout in the opener and an 8-3 follow-up in the rematch, a strong start that has the Moose sitting atop the AHL in goals and goal differential as they build early momentum under the Winnipeg umbrella.

There was also a little bit of everything in those first two games, from steady goaltending to a balanced scoring push that suggested the roster has more depth than just one hot line or one standout night. After practice at Hockey for All Centre, the Moose are now turning their attention to their first road test against the Grand Rapids Griffins, and the way they carry this start away from home should tell Winnipeg plenty about which prospects are ready to keep forcing the issue. Oilers Suddenly Have A Wild Mark Scheifele Question To Answer

Connor Hellebuycks trade request has added a layer of uncertainty around the Jets, and that has naturally pushed Mark Scheifeles future into the conversation. Winnipeg has not confirmed it is shopping its longtime center, but the idea is hanging out there because of the organizational unease, with rival teams watching closely to see whether the situation turns into something more than noise.

Scheifeles name is already being tied to interest from several clubs, including the Canadiens, Oilers and Wild, which only adds to the sense that this could become a bigger storyline if Winnipeg decides to listen. Any move would also have to pass through Scheifele himself, since he holds a full no-movement clause starting in 2026-27, and for now the Jets are still in the space between rumor and reality. Jets New Look Is Working And One Rookie Is Fueling Debate

The early returns on Winnipegs new look have been encouraging, with the Jets opening the 2026-27 season at 2-0-1 while showing a tempo and urgency that looked missing at times a year ago. The younger, faster additions have helped sharpen the forecheck and make the overall pace feel more aggressive, and the power play has been especially lively, cashing in at a rate that has given the group a clean boost in the first week.

One of the more interesting side stories has been the arrival of Tyrel Bauer, who has made a quick impression in his first two NHL games by bringing a physical edge that has already caught the fan bases attention. In a lineup trying to blend speed with bite, that sort of presence can matter, and it leaves the Jets with a familiar question: how far they want to lean into that kind of edge as the season settles in.
