The Winnipeg Jets open the season tonight with Game 1 of 84, and they do it at home against a Boston Bruins team that already has a win in the bank.
It’s an unusual start on paper, with Winnipeg facing three Eastern Conference teams to begin the schedule, but that’s the path the Jets have been handed as they try to launch a season of redemption. Boston arrives after taking care of business in its home opener a few days ago, and the Jets will be trying to spoil the Bruins’ early momentum while getting their own year started on the right foot.
There’s also a strong chance this night brings a pair of NHL debuts. Based on the way Winnipeg has skated over the last few practices, 18-year-old rookie Viggo Björck and fifth-year pro Tyrel Bauer are both expected to make their first regular-season appearances. The routes to this moment couldn’t be more different, but the excitement figures to be the same when they step onto NHL ice for the first time.
The Jets’ projected forward groups have Connor with Scheifele and Perfetti, followed by Rosén, Björck and Vilardi. Barron is listed with Lowry and Lambert, while Niederreiter, Namestnikov and Iafallo make up the fourth line.
On defense, Winnipeg is projected to go with Morrissey and DeMelo, Samberg and Pionk, and Ferraro and Bauer. Skinner and Stevenson are the goaltenders listed.
Boston’s projected lineup, as skated at practice according to Belle Fraser of BostonBruins.com, has Peterka, E. Lindholm and Pastrnak on the top line. Mittelstadt, Zacha and Geekie follow, then Hagens, Minten and Khusnutdinov, with Jeannot, Kuraly and Kastelic on the fourth line.
The Bruins’ defense pairs are H. Lindholm with Borgen, Zadorov with Clifton, and Aspirot with Lohrei. Swayman is listed in goal, with DiPietro backing him up.
For Winnipeg, the task is clear: settle in quickly, manage the puck, cut down on turnovers and make Boston work for every look. If the Jets can do that, they give themselves a real chance to establish the pace on home ice.

Jets Fans May Need Patience With Connor Hellebuyck Standoff
Connor Hellebuycks trade request has lingered into the fall, and for now the Winnipeg Jets are still waiting for the situation to sort itself out. The veteran goalie asked out in August, but he remains on the roster while Kevin Cheveldayoff and the front office work through a market that has not produced a deal yet.
Cheveldayoff has already signaled this is not the kind of move that will come together quickly, which fits with the reality of trying to move a player of Hellebuycks profile. NHL insider David Pagnotta has also reported that the San Jose Sharks have gathered information on his cost, a sign there is at least some outside interest, but there is still no trade in place and no clear end point for Jets fans hoping for resolution. Jets Prospects Just Took Center Stage With Manitoba's Opening Roster
The Manitoba Mooses opening-day roster for the 2026-27 regular season offers an early look at how much of the Winnipeg Jets prospect pipeline will be on display in the AHL. The club named 26 players to the group, including 15 forwards, eight defensemen and three goaltenders, with 10 Jets draft picks and eight rookie skaters among the mix. For a Winnipeg organization that has been trying to turn draft capital into depth, the list is heavy on names worth tracking, including Colby Barlow and Brayden Yager.
There are also a few roster decisions that help clarify the first wave of the seasons pecking order. Manitoba trimmed its camp group by moving Alex Worthington and Sullivan Mack to its ECHL affiliate, while Sam Sedley and Grant Porter were released from tryout agreements. And among the more interesting under-the-radar developments, Kevin is in position to make his AHL debut and reach a small bit of league history in the process, adding another layer of intrigue to a roster that already looks like a useful barometer for the Jets next wave.
