Jets Make Urgent Call Up Amid Injury Crunch

In the wake of multiple injuries, the Winnipeg Jets turn to Parker Ford and Danil Zhilkin for a crucial evaluation as they gear up for a pivotal four-game road trip.

The Winnipeg Jets are making strategic moves to bolster their lineup by recalling forwards Parker Ford and Danil Zhilkin under emergency conditions. This decision comes as the team looks to fill the gaps left by injuries to key players Vladislav Namestnikov, Nino Niederreiter, and Morgan Barron.

Danil Zhilkin, at 22, is stepping back onto the NHL stage after his initial debut in January, where he played four games. While he didn’t find the back of the net or the penalty box, he did manage a plus-two rating, showcasing his potential on the ice.

Since then, Zhilkin has solidified his role as a top center for the AHL’s Manitoba Moose. Despite a modest tally of 22 points over 54 games, he had a notable surge in late December, scoring five points in five games, which earned him his first NHL call-up.

Consistency has been a challenge, but his development is evident.

Parker Ford, 25, mirrors Zhilkin’s journey in some ways. Starting the season as an extra forward for Winnipeg, Ford saw action in 11 NHL games between October and November, recording one point and four penalty minutes, with a minus-two rating.

After being assigned to the AHL in November, he’s contributed 21 points in 45 games. Ford’s responsible play has been crucial in supporting a young Moose lineup, creating opportunities for prospects like Brayden Yager, Brad Lambert, and Zhilkin.

Last season, Ford also made a brief NHL appearance, adding one point in three games.

These call-ups are timely as the Jets gear up for a four-game road trip. Joining Zhilkin on the NHL roster are Lambert, Isak Rosen, Ville Heinola, and Elias Salomonsson.

With the playoffs out of reach, Winnipeg is seizing the opportunity to evaluate their prospects with ten games left in the season. This is a prime chance for young players to shine and make their mark on the team’s future.
