The Winnipeg Jets are already staring down a familiar kind of night: another tight game, another one-goal finish, and another result that slipped away in the third period.
On Tuesday in St. Louis, Winnipeg dropped a 2-1 decision to the Blues, leaving the Jets at 4-2-2 on the season after a stretch that has now included five losses, four of them by a single goal. The defeat came as the Jets worked through the first leg of a short Central Division road trip, with Thursday night against the Dallas Stars next on the schedule.
The Blues struck first in the opening period. Stuart Skinner and Joel Hofer were the goalies, and St.
Louis managed to make one of its 13 first-period shots count. Jimmy Snuggerud tipped a pass from the slot past Skinner for his 5th goal of the season, giving the Blues a 1-0 edge after 20 minutes.
Winnipeg had the shot advantage in the period, 14-13, and killed off the only power play of the frame.
The middle period turned into a back-and-forth penalty battle without a goal on either side. The Jets were whistled for three minors, the Blues for two, but neither club converted while the game stayed tight. Winnipeg still nudged ahead in shots in the period, 9-7, and kept pressing for a tying goal heading into the third.
Cole Perfetti finally provided it just 32 seconds into the final frame. Neal Pionk and Gabriel Vilardi set up the play, and Perfetti finished it off to pull the Jets even at 1-1.
But St. Louis answered eight minutes later when Philip Broberg blasted home his 2nd goal of the season from the point.
Winnipeg earned another power play after that, but couldn’t cash in, and the Blues held the lead the rest of the way.
The Jets kept pushing late, but the final minutes brought no change on the scoreboard. Winnipeg finished with a 33-29 edge in shots, yet the night ended with another one-goal loss, this time 2-1.
That result came on the heels of Saturday’s 3-2 loss to the Hurricanes at Canada Life Centre, a game that saw the Jets fall short despite a strong showing from Clay Stevenson in goal. Winnipeg led twice in that one before Jesperi Kotkaniemi’s late second-period goal tied it and former Jet Nikolaj Ehlers buried the eventual winner on a Shayne Gostisbehere setup with 13 minutes left.
Against Carolina, Mark Scheifele opened the scoring early in the second period for his 2nd goal of the season, Mark Jankowski answered for the Hurricanes on the power play, and Alex Iafallo briefly restored Winnipeg’s lead after a setup from Alex Lowry. The Hurricanes, who came in on a six-game winning streak, outshot the Jets 37-23 and held on down the stretch.
Now Winnipeg turns to Dallas, with the team traveling later Tuesday night ahead of Thursday’s matchup against the Stars. The 2026-27 regular season is nearly a month old, and the Jets’ next road game is already on deck.

Jets Suddenly Face A Brutal Test With Their Offense Going Cold
The Jets early-season wobble has arrived at a tough moment, with three straight losses exposing an offense that has gone quiet and a lineup that is already dealing with significant injuries. Connor Hellebuyck and Josh Morrissey are among the key absences, and Winnipeg has managed just 12 goals over its last five games while several forwards are still looking for their first of the season.
Brayden Yager has been summoned from the prospect ranks as the Jets try to find some life before a difficult stretch of games, and the timing underlines how quickly a promising start can get complicated. Winnipeg does not just need goals, it needs answers, and the next few days will show whether the club can manufacture them with a depleted group and a schedule that offers little margin for error. Jets Face A Hellebuyck Decision That Could Get Very Awkward
Connor Hellebuycks situation has sat over the Jets like a deadline since he was suspended for failing to report to training camp, and the clock is about to force everybodys hand. Winnipeg has been working through the fallout quietly, but the practical options are narrowing fast as the organization tries to avoid letting an already uncomfortable situation spill into the regular season picture.
If a trade still does not come together, the alternative paths are messy in their own ways for the Jets. They could keep paying him to stay away from the active roster, or bring him back into the fold under circumstances that would immediately test the locker room. NHL insiders have also floated the possibility of a conditioning stint in the AHL, which only adds another layer to a situation that has already become one of the leagues strangest early-season storylines. Jets Let A Tight Road Game Slip Away Despite Strong Goaltending
A tight road game in St. Louis still left Winnipeg with the sort of empty feeling that lingers after a one-goal loss. The Jets got strong work in net from Stuart Skinner, who made 26 saves, and they had enough of a push to stay right there with the Blues, but Joel Hofer was just as sharp at the other end with 32 stops as the game stayed close into the third period.
The difference came on special teams, where the Blues were perfect on the penalty kill and cashed in once on five power-play chances. Philip Broberg delivered the decisive goal on the man advantage, turning a hard-fought matchup into a 2-1 loss for Winnipeg and leaving the Jets with one more missed opportunity than they could afford.
