Jets Blue-Line Depth Is Being Tested Again At The Worst Time

With key roster changes and a promising return, Elias Salomonsson's recall by the Winnipeg Jets sparks anticipation amidst lingering uncertainties.

The Winnipeg Jets have turned to Elias Salomonsson after losing Jack St. Ivany on waivers earlier today, recalling the 22-year-old defenseman from the AHL’s Manitoba Moose in a team announcement.

Salomonsson has been building himself back up in the AHL over the past week after undergoing shoulder surgery in April. That recovery kept him out of Winnipeg’s training camp and preseason, and he has already missed the Jets’ first ten games of the 2026-27 season. Even with the recall in hand, it remains unclear whether he will suit up for the Heritage Classic tomorrow.

This is not new territory for Salomonsson. Last season, the former second-round pick made his NHL debut for Winnipeg and finished the 2025-26 campaign with one goal and five points in 32 games, along with a minus-6 rating. He averaged 17:58 of ice time per game, and while the offense was light, his 51.8% CorsiFor and 91.2% on-ice SV% at even strength suggested a defenseman with unusual poise for his age.

There’s also more offense in his game than that NHL line showed. Salomonsson put up five goals and 27 points in 53 games with Manitoba during the 2024-25 season, and during his brief tune-up over the past week, he added an assist in two games while posting a minus-1 rating.

The roster move is likely temporary. Once Josh Morrissey is back from injured reserve after dealing with an upper-body injury, Salomonsson is expected to head back to AHL Manitoba, since he is the only defenseman on the roster exempt from waivers.

Zach Hyman Sparked An Oilers Debate Fans Wont Ignore

Zach Hyman had an effect on the game against Carolina even before the Oilers power play got rolling, drawing a penalty and then flashing a wink that immediately turned the moment into a talking point. It was the kind of sequence that gets replayed, debated and turned over on social media, especially when the call itself becomes part of the story as much as the play.

For Edmonton, it was another reminder of how thin the line can be between savvy veteran instinct and the kind of theatrics fans never quite agree on. Hymans style has long invited that sort of scrutiny, and this latest clip gave the discussion fresh fuel at a time when every marginal edge matters and every drawn penalty gets examined like it could decide the night. Hellebuycks First Words After Leaving Winnipeg Will Hit Jets Fans Hard

Connor Hellebuycks first public comments since leaving Winnipeg came with the kind of poise and polish that have long defined his career. Introduced by Devils general manager Sunny Mehta after the trade from the Jets, the decorated goaltender said he was focused on winning and made a point of acknowledging the fans who watched him become one of the NHLs elite netminders, with multiple Vezina Trophies and an Olympic gold medal on his resume.

What stood out for Jets fans, though, was what Hellebuyck chose not to say. He missed training camp and the preseason while waiting for the deal to be finalized, and he indicated he was holding back a fuller message for Winnipeg supporters for a specific reason. For a fan base that spent years attached to one of its most recognizable stars, the wait for that farewell will likely sting as much as the departure itself. [Read more 🡒]

Jets Prospects Are Fueling A Moose Start Winnipeg Fans Should Notice

The Manitoba Moose head into their first regular-season meeting with the Iowa Wild carrying real early-season momentum, and plenty of Winnipeg fans have reason to keep one eye on the affiliate. The puck drops at 6:45 p.m. CDT, but the bigger story is how much of the Mooses strong start has been driven by Jets prospects finding their footing and producing in meaningful spots.

Parker Ford and Danny Zhilkin have both been part of that push, giving the Moose a forward group that has looked dangerous without sacrificing much defensively. The club leads the league in goals scored while ranking 10th in fewest goals allowed, a combination that suggests this start is more than a hot stretch and something worth tracking as the season settles in.
