The Winnipeg Jets are closing in on the 2026-27 season, and one of the clearest storylines heading into camp is what kind of year captain Adam Lowry can deliver.
Lowry has been part of the organization since the Jets took him in the third round, 67th overall, in the 2011 NHL Draft. He spent a season in juniors and two more in the AHL before making his NHL debut in 2014-15, then carved out his place as a shutdown bottom-six forward. That steady rise eventually led to him being named captain on September 12th, 2023.
The expectation around Lowry has never centered on gaudy point totals, but last season marked a noticeable dip. He played 70 games and finished with 5 goals and 16 assists for 21 points.
The goal total was especially thin, and his 7% shooting percentage helped explain why. After averaging around 25 points early in his career and then 35 points a season over the previous three years, last season stood out as a step backward.
It also reflected a larger issue for Winnipeg, with depth scoring becoming a major talking point this offseason and Lowry finishing tied for ninth on the team in points.
Where Lowry fits best in the lineup is pretty straightforward: third-line center. That’s the spot that makes the most sense for his game, though preseason performance from other Jets forwards could complicate things.
There’s also a scenario where he gets pushed into the second-line center role if the team needs it, even if that would not be an ideal fit for him at this stage. No matter where he lines up, he’s a lock to be used on one of the penalty-kill units.
The off-ice news has been pretty good for Lowry too. On November 19th, 2025, he signed a new five-year, $25 million extension with the Jets, and that deal begins this season.
He also got married this summer, giving him a pair of positive milestones heading into the new year. With the contract in place and his leadership still viewed as exactly what Winnipeg needs, Lowry enters the season looking to rediscover the form he showed over the last three years.
His linemates are still unclear, which makes the projection a little tricky. But if he lands in the right spot, a bounce-back to around 30 points is in play. At the very least, a realistic target is 10+ goals and 15+ assists for a 25-point season from a depth scorer who can still drive value in other ways.
Lowry’s new deal should carry him deep into the latter stages of his Jets career, and that makes this a meaningful season for the captain as Winnipeg gets ready to open the year at home against the Boston Bruins and host the Montreal Canadiens at Princess Auto Stadium for the 2026 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic.
