WVU Hoops Targets 4-Star Guard Linked to Two Current Commits

WVU strengthens its Arizona pipeline with an offer to a rising 2027 sharpshooter already linked to two Mountaineer commits.

West Virginia is staying aggressive on the recruiting trail, and their latest move shows the Mountaineers are thinking long-term-and thinking big. WVU has officially extended a scholarship offer to Lyris Robinson, a rising name in the 2027 class and a player who’s already turning heads out West.

Robinson, a 6-foot-4, 170-pound shooting guard out of Bella Vista Prep in Scottsdale, Arizona, is the kind of prospect that fits the modern game-long, skilled, and confident from deep. He’s currently rated as a four-star by the 247Sports composite with a 0.9647 rating, which places him at No. 87 nationally in the 2027 class and sixth overall in the state of Arizona. That’s no small feat in a state that’s been producing serious talent in recent years.

What makes this offer even more intriguing is Robinson’s connection to WVU’s current recruiting class. He’s high school teammates with both Miles Sadler and Aliou Dioum, two players who have already committed to the Mountaineers.

That trio has built chemistry on the court at Bella Vista, a program known for producing high-level players and competing nationally. WVU clearly sees value in tapping into that pipeline-and with good reason.

On the court, Robinson is putting together a solid junior season. He’s averaging over 9 points and 3 rebounds per game while shooting a sharp 42 percent from three.

That kind of efficiency from the perimeter is eye-catching, especially for a player still developing physically and rounding out his game. He’s not just a shooter either-his length and athleticism give him upside on both ends of the floor.

The offer list reflects his growing profile. Robinson already holds offers from a range of Power Five programs including Oregon, TCU, Mississippi State, Arizona State, Creighton, and Cal. Notably, that Arizona State offer came when current WVU assistant Yusuf Ali was still on staff in Tempe, which suggests Ali may be playing a key role in building this West Virginia-Bella Vista connection.

This isn’t just a one-off recruitment-it’s part of a broader strategy. WVU has clearly identified Bella Vista Prep as fertile ground for talent, and they’re working to build a strong presence there. With two commits already on board and now Robinson in the mix, the Mountaineers are planting deep roots in Arizona.

It’s still early in the 2027 cycle, but offers like this one show that West Virginia is thinking ahead and targeting players who can grow with the program. If Robinson continues on his current trajectory, don’t be surprised if he becomes a major storyline in WVU’s future plans.
