As we gear up for the third year of the United Football League's latest chapter, there's plenty of excitement in the air. With eight teams set to compete, fans of West Virginia University have even more reason to tune in, as five former Mountaineers are ready to hit the field this spring. Let's dive into what each of these talented alumni will bring to their respective teams.
Marcus Simms, WR, Birmingham Stallions
Marcus Simms, a key player from the Dana Holgorsen era at WVU, made his mark from 2016 to 2018. During his time in Morgantown, Simms racked up 81 receptions for 1,362 yards and seven touchdowns.
After a stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars' practice squad in 2019, he found his way to the UFL, suiting up for the Michigan Panthers from 2022 to 2024. Now, he's taking his talents to the Birmingham Stallions.
Last season, Simms managed 12 catches for 136 yards and a touchdown, and he's eager to build on those numbers this year.
Tony Fields, LB, Columbus Aviators
Tony Fields is no stranger to making an impact on the field. After transferring to WVU in 2020 from Arizona, Fields became a defensive force, amassing 375 tackles and 9.5 sacks over his college career.
Drafted by the Cleveland Browns, he spent nearly four years with them, tallying 88 tackles, two fumble recoveries, and an interception returned for a touchdown. After a stint with the Los Angeles Rams' practice squad, Fields is ready to take on spring football with the Columbus Aviators.
Kole Taylor, TE, DC Defenders
Kole Taylor's journey took him from LSU to West Virginia, where he became a reliable target, posting 78 catches for 892 yards and seven touchdowns. Though he signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent, he didn't make the final roster. Now, he's set to showcase his skills in spring football with the DC Defenders, aiming to be a key asset in their offensive strategy.
Fatorma Mulbah, DL, Houston Gamblers
Fatorma Mulbah transitioned from a reserve role at Penn State to a part-time starter at WVU, where he recorded 75 tackles and 1.5 sacks. After signing with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent, Mulbah spent most of 2025 on their practice squad. This spring, he's ready to bring his defensive prowess to the Houston Gamblers, looking to make a significant impact on the line.
Kenny Robinson, S, Louisville Kings
Kenny Robinson's path has been filled with ups and downs. A standout at WVU with 123 tackles and seven interceptions, his college career was cut short due to academic issues.
Despite this setback, the Carolina Panthers saw his potential and drafted him in 2020. After two seasons and a brief period with the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice squad, Robinson found his way to spring football.
Having played for the Birmingham Stallions, he's now set to patrol the secondary for the Louisville Kings.
These former Mountaineers are set to bring their unique talents and experiences to the UFL, promising an exciting season ahead. Keep an eye on these players as they look to make their mark and continue their football journeys.
