West Virginia just got a little deeper in the secondary - and a lot more competitive. The Mountaineers have landed a commitment from Stephen F. Austin safety Kameron Reddic, a promising young defender who’s set to bring both production and poise to Morgantown.
Reddic, a 6-foot, 185-pound playmaker, made his decision after visiting WVU last week. He also took a look at Houston and Georgia Southern, but in the end, it was the Mountaineers’ culture and coaching staff that sealed the deal.
“I went on a visit to West Virginia,” Reddic said. “It went great. I loved the school and the coaches.”
That connection clearly resonated. Reddic cited the welcoming atmosphere and the relationships he built during his visit as key reasons for choosing WVU.
“The coaches and the culture that they had, and the people in the facility made me feel comfortable and like family,” he added.
This isn’t just a depth move - Reddic brings real on-field experience. As a true freshman at Stephen F.
Austin, he posted 44 tackles, broke up four passes, and grabbed an interception. Those are solid numbers for a first-year player adjusting to the speed of the college game, and they hint at a high ceiling as he steps into a Power Five environment.
He’s expected to enroll at West Virginia this week and will participate in both spring classes and spring football - giving him a head start on acclimating to the Mountaineers’ system and competing for a role in the defensive backfield.
With four years to play three, Reddic offers both immediate upside and long-term value. He’s the kind of player who could carve out a role early on special teams or in sub-packages, and eventually grow into a bigger role as he continues to develop.
For a West Virginia defense looking to bolster its back end, this is a smart pickup - a young, hungry defender with college reps under his belt and something to prove. Keep an eye on Reddic this spring. He’s got the tools, and now he’s got the platform.
