West Virginia just added a big piece to its defensive puzzle - literally and figuratively. Coastal Carolina edge rusher Zeke Campbell is headed to Morgantown, bringing with him both experience and upside as he enters his final year of eligibility.
Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing in at 247 pounds, Campbell has taken the long road to Power Five football, but he’s arriving with momentum. His journey began at Division II Lenoir-Rhyne, where he made an immediate impact as a true freshman, racking up 23 tackles and eight tackles for loss. That early production hinted at his potential, and it wasn’t long before he made the jump to the FBS level.
At Louisiana Tech, Campbell found himself in the rotation as a sophomore, logging 195 snaps and finishing with 15 tackles. While he wasn’t a full-time starter, he showed flashes of the disruptive ability that would later define his 2025 season.
After redshirting the following year - appearing in just four games before hitting pause - Campbell transferred again, this time to Coastal Carolina. That move turned out to be a game-changer.
He started all 13 games for the Chanticleers in 2025, finishing with 39 tackles and 5.5 sacks. It was the kind of season that put him on the radar for programs looking to bolster their pass rush.
Now, West Virginia is betting that Campbell’s best football is still ahead of him. He arrives with a full season of starting experience at the FBS level and the kind of frame and motor that fits right into what the Mountaineers want on the edge. For a defense looking to generate more pressure and disrupt opposing quarterbacks, Campbell could be a key addition.
There’s no question Campbell has taken a winding path to get here - from DII standout to Group of Five contributor to Power Five starter - but each stop has added a layer to his game. If he can continue that upward trajectory in Morgantown, West Virginia might have found a late-stage gem for its defensive front.
