Former WVU Guard Erik Stevenson Gets Another Shot To Break Through

Erik Stevenson is set for another shot at NBA glory as he gears up to impress with the Denver Nuggets' Summer League team this year.

Erik Stevenson’s basketball road has never been a straight line, and now the former West Virginia guard is getting another chance to keep it moving.

Stevenson will suit up for the Denver Nuggets’ Summer League team this summer, adding another NBA organization to a pro career that has already taken him through a long list of stops. After two seasons at Wichita State, one at Washington, one at South Carolina and a final college year at West Virginia, he has kept bouncing from place to place at the next level too.

His pro résumé already includes time with the Austin Spurs, Texas Legends and Capital City Go-Go in the G League, along with stints overseas with Cholet in LNB Pro A, Casademont Zaragoza in Liga ACB and Manisa Basket in the Turkish Basketbol Süper Ligi.

The latest chapter was his strongest yet. This past season with the Go-Go, Stevenson averaged 14.7 points per game while shooting 44% from the field and 35% from 3-point range.

He also averaged 3.8 assists and 3.8 rebounds. That production earned him a 10-day contract with the Washington Wizards, though he never got into a game, leaving his NBA debut still waiting.

There’s still a belief that Stevenson can carve out a real NBA opportunity. The shooting is there - he’s hit 34% from deep across 62 G League games - and the hope is that a strong Summer League run can push him toward something bigger. A two-way deal feels like the next logical step, with the chance to work his way into a standard NBA contract after that.

For now, the immediate goal is simple: make noise in the four guaranteed games Denver will play and turn that into a training camp invite, which would give him a shot to show more in preseason.

Stevenson and the Nuggets open Summer League play on Friday, July 10, against the Houston Rockets at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

The rest of the schedule has Denver facing the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday, July 11, at 7:30 p.m. ET on PRIME, the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday, July 14, at 9 p.m.

ET on ESPN and the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday, July 16, at 10 p.m. ET on PRIME VIDEO.

West Virginia Fans Need To See Scotty Foxs Video Game Likeness

College Football 27 is out early for MVP+ members, and as with most first-week sports video game releases, the buzz has come with a few familiar gripes. EA Sports has already drawn attention for some missing players and minor glitches, but one of the more noticeable issues for West Virginia fans is how the game handles quarterback Scotty Fox Jr., whose digital likeness does not quite match the player Mountaineer fans know from Saturdays.

Fox is not the only quarterback getting a shaky virtual debut, either, with Kansas States Avery Johnson also among the players whose likenesses are off. EA is expected to clean up some of those problems in future updates, but for now West Virginia fans are left with a version of their quarterback that feels more placeholder than proper representation, which is exactly the kind of detail that gets noticed fast in a fan base already eager to see its team reflected accurately. Another Former Mountaineer Just Landed A Summer Shot Fans Will Love

Toby Okani has found another familiar stop in the Knicks system, landing on New Yorks Summer League roster after spending time with the organizations G League affiliate. For West Virginia fans, the appeal is obvious: hell be sharing the stage with former Mountaineer teammate Treysen Eaglestaff, giving the summer roster a little extra Morgantown flavor.

Okani also brings some recent NBA experience into the mix, having appeared in six games for the Memphis Grizzlies on a 10-day contract last season. The Knicks open Summer League play July 10 against the San Antonio Spurs, and for a player trying to keep building momentum, that first run could matter a lot. [Read more 🡒]
