Broncs Baker, a rising linebacker out of Stansbury High in Tooele, Utah, is starting to narrow the field in his recruitment-and things are heating up. The four-star prospect, rated 0.8919 in the 247Sports Composite for the 2027 class, recently trimmed his list of offers down to six programs: Boise State, Michigan, Oregon State, Virginia Tech, Washington State, and West Virginia.
That’s a strong and diverse mix of schools, spanning coast to coast, but it’s West Virginia that’s been making a particularly strong push in recent weeks.
“The defensive coaches have been recruiting me hard the last month or so,” Baker said. “They talk my talk-speed and violence and hard edge.”
That’s music to the ears of any linebacker who thrives on physicality and fast-twitch instincts. Baker’s game is built around exactly that-aggression, sideline-to-sideline speed, and a natural feel for disrupting plays before they even have a chance to develop. When a coaching staff not only recognizes that but leans into it, it’s no surprise they’re earning a closer look.
Baker has plans to get a firsthand feel for Morgantown and the Mountaineers’ program soon. He and his family are locked in for a visit on March 7, just after the current recruiting dead period ends.
That trip won’t be the only one on the calendar. Baker also mentioned plans to visit Michigan and Virginia Tech this spring, with a couple of Pac-12 programs potentially joining the itinerary.
With over ten offers on the table and a skill set that continues to draw national attention, Baker’s recruitment is shaping up to be one of the more intriguing storylines in the 2027 cycle. He’s not rushing the process, but the next few months will be telling as he begins to get a closer look at the programs vying for his commitment.
For now, West Virginia is firmly in the mix-and if their message continues to resonate the way it has, they’ll have a real shot at landing one of the most dynamic linebackers in the class.
