The Washington Wizards are about two months out from opening the 2026-27 season, and the roster they’ll roll out looks nothing like the one they had a year ago.
AJ Dybantsa, the No. 1 overall pick, is set to be surrounded by veteran All-Stars Trae Young and Anthony Davis, both of whom Washington brought in at last year’s deadline. Young, meanwhile, was back in the gym this summer running with a mix of current and former NBA players in Los Angeles - and one familiar name from his past showed him some unexpected respect.
Patrick Beverley, the former NBA journeyman guard who has spent the last year taking shots at Young, posted a shoutout to him on social media after the open workout. The two have been locked in a strange feud for more than a year, one that started with Beverley repeatedly calling out Young on his podcast over what he viewed as a lack of winning.
That spilled onto social media, where the back-and-forth kept going. Beverley also took plenty of satisfaction in the Atlanta Hawks’ rough start to last season before Young was eventually dealt to Washington in exchange for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert.
Young’s first season with the Wizards was limited, as he mostly sat out because of injury. Davis didn’t play for Washington at all after arriving from the Dallas Mavericks. Washington has already locked in Young for the long haul with a lucrative contract extension, while Davis has not signed a similar deal.
Beverley, for his part, has been playing overseas since being dropped from the NBA a couple of years ago.
