Trevor Keels is headed to Washington on an Exhibit 10 contract, according to Keith Smith of Spotrac.
The move lines up with a G League transaction completed Wednesday that shuffled the returning rights for several players across the Heat, Kings and Wizards systems. In that deal, Keels’ rights were sent from the Sioux Falls Skyforce to the Capital City Go-Go. The same trade also moved Mo Bamba’s rights from Stockton Kings to Sioux Falls and Leaky Black’s from Capital City to Stockton.
For Keels, the Exhibit 10 agreement gives Washington a little roster flexibility while also putting him in position for a bonus worth up to $91K if he’s waived before the regular season and then stays with the Go-Go for at least 60 days. Those contracts can also be converted into two-way deals before opening night.
Keels entered the league as the 42nd overall pick in the 2022 draft and has spent most of his pro career away from the NBA spotlight. He appeared in only three games for the Knicks as a rookie, then didn’t get back to the league until last season, when he logged eight games for the Heat after signing a two-way contract in February.
What he has done, though, is produce at the G League level. The 6-foot-3 guard played 40 games for Sioux Falls last season and put up 18.7 points, 3.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds per night in 32.8 minutes, while shooting .448 from the field, .402 from three and .732 at the line.
He also turned in a strong Summer League run for Miami in July before an MCL sprain ended that stretch. Across the California Classic and Las Vegas, Keels averaged 20.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals in four games, shooting .500/.379/.857 in 27.9 minutes per contest.
