Anthony Davis Progressing, Wizards Plan Crucial Evaluation Soon

Wizards Weigh Anthony Davis' Return Amid Optimism and Strategic Caution

Anthony Davis is on the mend after having his left hand's ligament damage reevaluated in Los Angeles. The Wizards shared some encouraging news, stating his recovery is “progressing positively.” However, the volar plate tissue is still healing, so it's not all smooth sailing just yet.

The game plan? Davis will stick with a “conservative” treatment approach, gradually increasing his basketball activities as he feels ready. Another evaluation is set for the end of March to see how things are shaping up.

Since Davis joined the Wizards at the trade deadline, there's been a lot of chatter about whether we’ll see him on the court this season. Some reports have hinted that he might sit out the rest of the year, but GM Will Dawkins is holding out hope for a return before the regular season wraps up on April 12.

With the Wizards sitting at a 16-53 record, they’re not exactly in a rush to rack up wins. Their focus is more on securing a top-eight protected first-round pick and boosting their chances in the draft lottery.

But the Wizards aren't just looking to the future. By bringing back Trae Young earlier this month after his injury, they showed they value building chemistry between their new veterans and young players before the season ends.

So, while Davis might not hit the hardwood again this season, don’t rule out a late appearance if his hand heals and the team’s draft position is secure.

In his 20 games with Dallas this season, Davis was a force, averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.7 blocks per game. Whether or not he suits up again soon, his presence is sure to be felt in Washington.
