Washington State Pro Day: Eckhaus, Dieu, and Meredith Shine
Pro Day at Washington State University brought together scouts and hopefuls in an atmosphere buzzing with energy and anticipation. Among the standout performers were quarterback Zevi Eckhaus, center Brock Dieu, and wide receiver Josh Meredith, each eager to showcase their skills and make a lasting impression.
Eckhaus Reflects on Performance
Zevi Eckhaus, reflecting on his day, was all smiles. "I thought it went well," he said.
"Everyone looked sharp, and the energy was fantastic. If you had told me yesterday this is how it would go, I'd be thrilled."
Eckhaus had been honing his skills in Martinsville, New Jersey, with Test Academy, working under the guidance of Skip Fuller, Kevin Dunn, and Tony Racioppi.
Dieu Embraces the Moment
Brock Dieu described the experience as surreal. "It's always nice to come back and see familiar faces," he shared.
"From watching veterans like Abe Lucas and Liam Ryan to having 20 guys show up today, it’s a special moment." Dieu stayed in Pullman to train with the WSU staff, focusing on living in the moment rather than fixating on numbers.
"It's all about moving on to the next drill and giving your best."
Meredith's Preparation Pays Off
For Josh Meredith, preparation was key. "Thirteen weeks of hard work came down to just a few reps," he said.
"I took each one at a time and felt good about my performance." Meredith had been training in San Diego with Les Spellman, and while he awaited his official 40-yard dash time, he was told it was impressive.
Scouts Take Notice
Scouts from NFL teams like the Seahawks, Bears, and 49ers, as well as CFL teams such as the BC Lions and Hamilton Tiger-Cats, were in attendance. Meredith took the opportunity to introduce himself, appreciating the feedback. "A little head nod, handshake, and a 'good job' go a long way," he noted.
Dieu echoed this sentiment, remarking on the scouts' typically stoic demeanor. "You get the occasional 'great run' or 'great rep,' but they keep things close to the vest," he said.
Eckhaus, too, made sure to connect with the scouts, thanking them for their presence and the opportunity to showcase his skills. "Nothing imminent right now," he admitted, but the connections were valuable.
Next Steps for the Trio
Looking ahead, Eckhaus plans to visit family in California. Meredith will remain in the Spokane area, while Dieu is balancing his athletic aspirations with academic pursuits, taking electives at WSU.
A Day to Remember
In all, 19 WSU players participated in the Pro Day, each with their own story and aspirations. From running backs to safeties, the event was a testament to hard work, perseverance, and the pursuit of dreams. Whether it's the NFL or CFL, these athletes are ready to take the next step in their careers, armed with the skills and experiences from their time at Washington State.
