Ace Glass Continues to Shine: WSU Freshman Earns Second WCC Weekly Honor
PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State freshman guard Ace Glass is turning heads across the West Coast Conference - and the college basketball world is starting to take notice. On Monday, Glass was named WCC Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, a nod to his consistent scoring and all-around impact on both ends of the floor.
Glass earned the honor after putting together back-to-back double-digit scoring performances, capped by a 24-point outing in the nonconference finale against Mercer. That game wasn’t just about the numbers - it was a showcase of his growing poise and shot-making ability, especially from deep, where he connected on three of his five attempts.
Through 11 games, Glass has scored in double figures nine times. That kind of consistency is rare for a true freshman, especially one adjusting to the speed and physicality of Division I basketball. But Glass hasn’t just adjusted - he’s thrived.
In a Dec. 17 win over Eastern Washington, Glass added a career-high five assists to his stat sheet, showing he’s more than just a scorer. Then came Saturday, when he dropped his fifth 20-point game of the season, once again proving he can carry the offensive load when needed. Over that two-game stretch, Glass shot an efficient 56% from the field while contributing across the board: 10 rebounds, four steals, seven assists, and a block.
He’s not just putting up numbers - he’s doing it efficiently and in winning moments.
Right now, Glass leads the Cougars in scoring at 15.9 points per game. That places him eighth overall in the WCC and makes him the top-scoring freshman in the conference. Nationally, he ranks 12th among all freshmen in scoring - a strong early indicator that he’s one of the most impactful first-year players in the country.
And when it comes to free throws, Glass is nearly automatic. He’s hitting 89.4% from the line - fifth-best in the WCC and fourth nationally among freshmen. That kind of reliability from the stripe is a coach’s dream, especially in close games.
Glass first grabbed headlines - and his first WCC Freshman of the Week honor - on December 1 after a jaw-dropping 40-point performance against Arizona State in the Maui Invitational semifinals. That night, he didn’t just break the WSU freshman single-game scoring record - he announced himself as a rising star in college hoops.
Now, with nonconference play behind them, the Cougars are gearing up for the grind of WCC action. Their conference opener is set for Sunday, December 28, on the road against Portland. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
As Washington State looks to make noise in the WCC, one thing’s clear: Ace Glass isn’t just part of the plan - he’s leading it.
