Washington State Just Added Another Twist To Its Uniform Rotation

The Washington State Cougars aim to rewrite their luck in a fresh, eye-catching uniform combination when they take on Utah State, showcasing their fashion-forward approach on the field.

Washington State is keeping the wardrobe fresh again this week at Utah State, and the Cougars will roll out a combination they’ve never worn before: a white helmet with a facemask, white jersey and anthracite pants.

It’s the fourth straight week WSU has taken the field in a brand-new uniform look, and this one pushes the program’s count to 56 different combinations since 2017.

There is a familiar twist here, though. The Cougars were originally set to wear this exact setup at Virginia, but switched to the crimson helmet they had used the week before at Ole Miss.

The white-white-anthracite base has shown up before, just not in this exact form. WSU first wore it at Utah in 2020, but that version featured an anthracite WSU logo on the helmet instead of the crimson one.

The Cougars brought it back at San Diego State in 2024 with an anthracite facemask. They also used the same overall look with a crimson facemask at USC in 2018, at Arizona State in 2019 and at UCLA in 2023.

All three of those games ended in losses.

For 2026, this will be the third time the Cougars have worn a white helmet, and both previous appearances came with a crimson facemask. It’s also the first time this season WSU will put on its anthracite pants. Last year, the Cougars wore those pants twice.

Since 2017, Washington State has worn a white helmet 27 times and gone 15-12 in those games. With a white facemask, the Cougars are 7-4. When that helmet carries the standard crimson WSU logo, they are 6-3.

Boise State Already Looms Large In Gonzagas Pac-12 Debut

Gonzagas move into the Pac-12 in the 2026-27 season brings a fresh schedule and an immediate sense that the leagues new geography will matter as much as the names on the top line. After 46 years in the West Coast Conference, the Bulldogs will enter a nine-team setup built around 16 conference games with home-and-away matchups, and the calendar already suggests a league that could feel familiar in some spots and brand new in others.

Washington State will be part of that next chapter, but so will a Boise State program that already looks poised to loom large in Gonzagas debut. Along with Colorado State, San Diego State and Utah State, it gives the Bulldogs a set of early touchpoints that could shape how quickly they settle into their new home, and how fast any real rivalries begin to take hold. Washington State Has A Real Shot To End This Skid On The Road

Utah State coach Bronco Mendenhall has plenty of reasons to see some familiar pain in a Washington State team that has been grinding through a difficult stretch of its own, and he pointed to strength of schedule as a major factor behind both slumps. For the Cougars, the trip offers a chance to reset against a program dealing with similar issues, and the matchup breakdown suggests there are clear paths for WSU to lean on if it wants to come home with a much-needed win.

The Cougars should have opportunities to work the ground game and make life uncomfortable for Utah States quarterbacks, two areas that could tilt the game in their favor if they execute cleanly. Mendenhall also singled out WSU edge rushers Linus Zunk and Matyus McLain as defensive threats, which only adds to the intrigue of a road test where Washington States front could be the part of the team that sets the tone.
