The Washington Huskies may have just put themselves in position to land another major local prize.
After picking up their first Class of 2027 commitment on Tuesday from four-star shooting guard Jimmie Haywood, Washington also moved deeper into the mix for five-star combo guard Jalen Davis, who trimmed his list to four schools: the Huskies, UCLA, Gonzaga and North Carolina.
Davis, a Bremerton native from Bremerton High School, is the kind of prospect who can change the feel of a recruiting class in a hurry. He’s just an hour-long ferry ride from Seattle, and Washington has been tracking him for a long time.
He also took an official visit to Montlake on Sept. 27, 2025.
The 6-foot-4, 175-pound guard had a monster season for Bremerton, earning Washington’s boys’ basketball Gatorade Player of the Year honor for the 2025-26 campaign. He put up 31.5 points, 9.6 rebounds, 5.8 steals and 5.2 assists per game while shooting 63.9% from the floor.
On3 Sports’ prediction model currently gives Washington the edge, though only by a sliver, at 23%. Stanford sits second at 20.1%, but the Cardinal did not make Davis’ final four. Among the schools still alive, UCLA is listed at 17.3%, North Carolina at 14.4% and Gonzaga at 13.9%.
That picture could shift quickly now that Davis has narrowed things down, but for the moment Washington appears to have a narrow lead.
There’s still a financial wrinkle in the mix. UW is reportedly the lowest-ranked team in men’s basketball spending, and Davis is expected to draw strong NIL interest. Even so, that hasn’t stopped the Huskies from making progress on the recruiting trail, as shown by the Haywood commitment.
Washington has also spent the offseason strengthening its recruiting operation, bringing in general manager Alex Kline and assistant coach Mike Mennenga.

Washington State Has A Feel Good Walk On Story Fans Will Love
Caleb Northcrofts path to Washington State has already turned into one of those feel-good football stories that usually gets shared around a locker room long before it shows up in the box score. The walk-on transfer from Whitworth University arrived in July after entering the portal, and after first making the travel team, he has worked his way into a role at wide receiver for the Cougars.
For a player who grew up around the program, the rise carries a little extra weight. Northcroft spent years attending games at Martin Stadium, and now he is not just watching from the stands anymore. His first offensive snap and first reception came against San Diego State, a small but meaningful step for a player who has kept earning more trust as the season has gone along. [Read more 🡒]
