Washington already has one Arizona quarterback in the fold, and now another Grand Canyon State standout is making noise before he ever gets to Seattle.
Blake Roskopf, a Washington commit, lit up Notre Dame Prep on Thursday night with 353 passing yards and five touchdowns as Desert Edge rolled to a 46-7 win in Goodyear. The senior finished 18 of 30 through the air and helped the Scorpions keep their strong start rolling.
Roskopf’s latest outing pushed him beyond 1,000 passing yards on the season, and he’s now up to 12 touchdown passes through Desert Edge’s first three games. He opened the year with 411 passing yards against Cactus Shadows and followed that with 300 yards against Cienega in Week 2.
The numbers are piling up fast, but they’re not coming out of nowhere. Roskopf threw for 2,815 yards and 37 touchdowns as a junior, and this fall has already picked up right where he left off.
That production gives Washington fans another Arizona name to watch. Current Huskies quarterback Demond Williams Jr., a former Basha High School star, posted 3,250 passing yards and 34 touchdowns in his senior season in Arizona. Williams also did major damage on the ground, rushing for more than 1,000 yards and 20 touchdowns.
Roskopf’s game is built differently - he does most of his work as a passer - but the result has been the same so far: big numbers and one of the state’s most productive quarterbacks through the early weeks of the 2026 season.
Desert Edge still has plenty in front of it, including a Sept. 18 home matchup with ALA-Gilbert North at 7 p.m. That game will pit two of Arizona’s top teams against each other, and it comes with the Scorpions still chasing another deep postseason run.
Desert Edge entered the 2025 postseason unbeaten before losing to Desert Mountain in the Class 5A quarterfinals. That came a season after the Scorpions went 10-4 and won the 2024 state championship.
With Roskopf driving an offense that has already produced in bunches, Desert Edge will be aiming for another push at the 5A title this fall.
