Washington’s quarterback recruiting picture has shifted again, and the Huskies are still keeping a line open to a familiar name.
After four-star Blake Roskopf backed off his commitment, Washington has reportedly stayed in contact with Arizona Wildcats pledge Caden Jones. That’s according to Rivals.com reporter Adam Gorney, who said the Huskies and Baylor Bears have continued talking with Jones even after he chose Arizona.
Jones, a three-star quarterback and two-sport athlete, was one of Washington’s top targets before he committed to the Wildcats. The Huskies were among his three finalists, along with Arizona and Baylor, before he picked Arizona, where his older brother plays.
The timing matters because Roskopf had been the only quarterback tied to Washington beyond the players already on the roster. He was ranked as the 177th-best overall player, the 14th-best quarterback and the fourth-best player in Arizona in his class, according to the 247Sports composite.
Washington’s current quarterback room includes third-years Elijah Brown and Demond Williams Jr., second-years Kini McMillan and Dash Beierly, and first-year Derek Zammmit.
Gorney’s report also said Washington “tipped Jones off” to Roskopf’s decommitment. Before that change, the Huskies had told Jones on his official visit that the plan was to take two quarterbacks in his class. With Roskopf now out of the picture, that plan may have changed.
Even so, Jones said he is “locked” in to Arizona, while adding that “something could always happen.”
The Huskies’ recent recruiting run has been rough. Their bad stretch began Oct. 1, when five-star Class of 2028 edge rusher Jalanie George chose Wisconsin over Washington, which had been viewed as the favorite to land the Desert Edge High School defensive end.

Washington Recruiting Suddenly Has A Jedd Fisch Problem
Recruiting has taken a small hit for Washington in recent days, a reminder that even with on-field momentum there is always work to do on the trail. The Huskies have been building around Jedd Fischs vision, and the pitch has had enough appeal to land attention from prospects who see a program trying to settle in quickly after the conference realignment upheaval.
Still, the latest stretch has brought a little more uncertainty than the staff would like. Former Husky Trent McDuffie also added to the conversation by saying in a radio interview that he misses the Pac-12, a sentiment that speaks to how much the programs identity has changed even as it keeps pushing forward. Washingtons road win at Nebraska showed the team can still deliver in a big spot, but the recruiting side is a different kind of test, and one Fisch will have to keep managing. [Read more 🡒]
Washington May Be Catching Penn State At Exactly The Right Time
Penn States season under first-year head coach Matt Campbell has been a study in adjustment, and Brian Bennetts read on the Nittany Lions suggests Washington is lining up against a team still trying to find its footing. Quarterback Rocco Becht has had to carry a heavy load in an offense that has not always given him much help, while the defense has also been sorting through changes under coordinator DAnton Lynn. For a Huskies team looking ahead on the schedule, that combination makes Penn State a more complicated opponent than the brand name alone might suggest.
The challenge, though, is that the Nittany Lions still have enough pieces to make life difficult if the right players start clicking at the right time. Bennetts breakdown points to a roster that has been pressed by injuries, inconsistency and the demands of a new system, but also one that has shown flashes when the supporting cast has shown up. Washingtons interest now is in whether those flashes stay scattered or start to come together just as the Huskies arrive. [Read more 🡒]
Demond Williams Jr. Changes Everything For Washington Against Penn State
Washingtons offense is about to get its most important piece back at the right time. Demond Williams Jr. is expected to return as the starter against Penn State after working his way back from a fractured rib, and Jedd Fisch has already confirmed the quarterback is ready for the matchup in Seattle. Williams was the spark behind Washingtons fourth-quarter rally against Nebraska, the kind of late-game push that reminded everyone how much different this offense looks when he is in control.
Penn State arrives with momentum after a recent win, but the Huskies have reason to feel better about their own direction with Williams back in the fold. His presence changes the conversation for Washington immediately, especially against a defense that will be tested in a hostile road setting for the Nittany Lions. The only real question now is how quickly he can pick up where he left off after the injury layoff. [Read more 🡒]
