The Washington Huskies are trying to find a path that would let Christian Moss return in 2027, even as the sixth-year wide receiver’s 2026 season appears headed toward an early end.
Moss, who came to Washington this offseason from Kennesaw State, was supposed to help fill the void left by last season’s leading receiver, Denzel Boston. Boston was selected in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. Moss brought a résumé from the Owls that included 45 catches for 689 yards and two touchdowns.
But injuries followed him to Seattle. Moss missed all of spring with a soft tissue injury, then lasted just one play in Washington’s 24-10 win over Washington State on Sept. 6 before suffering a quad injury that required surgery. If he does make it back, it would only be for the final two games of the season, though the outlook points the other way.
His college career has been defined by stops and starts. Moss originally played at Virginia Tech from 2021-22, then missed 2023 because of injury. He was later granted a medical waiver by the NCAA, which gave him one more season.
Washington’s roster has taken plenty of hits this year, too. The Huskies lost assumed starting running back Jordan Washington to a neck injury early in spring practice, and three more backs - Quaid Carr, Julian McMahan and Jayden Limar - also went down. All four are considered to have a strong chance of missing the rest of the season.
Under the NCAA’s new "5-for-5" eligibility rules, Moss’ final season of college football would normally be this year, with redshirts and medical waivers no longer applying. Even so, Washington is looking into potential ways to keep him around for 2027.

Washington Just Took A Painful Roster Hit Before Big Ten Play
With Big Ten play looming, Washington has lost two more experienced pieces from its roster plans. Kicker Grady Gross and defensive tackle Ta'ita'i Uiagalelei both had briefly rejoined the Huskies during fall training camp under a temporary injunction tied to NCAA eligibility rule changes, but their status never lasted long enough to settle into the season.
Head coach Jimmy Lake confirmed the appeals were overturned, leaving both players unable to take part moving forward. The setback stings for a team trying to steady itself for conference play, especially with Gross having already resumed kickoff duties earlier in the year before the latest ruling shut down any chance of a return. Purdue's Washington Opportunity Just Got A Lot More Interesting
Washingtons trip to Purdue already looked like a tricky one, with the Boilermakers favored at home and the Huskies trying to stop a slide that has reached three straight losses. The matchup has an especially uneasy feel for Washington because Purdue brings a potent offense to the table, even if its defense has left openings, while the Huskies have had a hard time finding traction in Big Ten play.
The biggest question hanging over the week is under center, where Demond Williams Jr. is dealing with a concussion issue and his availability could shape everything about how Washington approaches the game. If he cant go, the Huskies may have to turn to Elijah Brown, which would add another layer of uncertainty to an offense already searching for a reset at a difficult point in the season.
