Washington is in the thick of the chase for one of the nation’s top Class of 2027 prospects, and the Huskies have made the cut as the list narrows.
Five-star small forward Malachi Jordan has trimmed his recruitment to eight schools, according to Rivals.com reporter Joe Tipton. Washington is joined by Vanderbilt, Alabama, Kansas, Tennessee, UConn, USC and Ohio State on that final list.
Jordan, who plays at Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is a 6-foot-6 wing with major national appeal. The 247Sports composite has him ranked as the No. 13 player in the country, the No. 3 small forward and the No. 7 player in Florida.
The Huskies have been pushing hard in the Class of 2027 after landing only one commitment from the Class of 2026, three-star small forward Lattimore Ford. That came after Washington wasn’t able to match the recruiting success it had in the previous two seasons under head coach Danny Sprinkle.
With just six players back from last season, Washington has also been working to strengthen its future pipeline and reduce its dependence on international recruiting down the line. The program has already extended offers and secured official visits with several of the top players in the 2027 class.
Jordan’s visit schedule is already taking shape. He is set to visit USC on Sept.
4, Kansas on Sept. 12, Vanderbilt on Sept.
19, Tennessee on Sept. 26 and UConn on Oct. 4.
For now, Vanderbilt appears to have the inside track. Rivals.com lists the Commodores as the most likely landing spot at 20.2%, with Tennessee next at 17.7%, Kansas at 15.2% and Washington fourth at 12.6%.
As things stand, Jordan’s recruitment remains very much up in the air - but Washington has positioned itself among the schools still in the hunt.
