Washington Is Suddenly In A Huge Battle For In-State 5-Star Guard

The Washington Huskies make a strong play for top talent Jalen Davis, but financial hurdles could impact their pursuit of the coveted combo guard.

The Washington Huskies are in the thick of another major recruiting battle, and this one comes with a local angle.

Five-star combo guard Jalen Davis revealed his final four schools on Tuesday, trimming his list to Washington, UCLA, Gonzaga and North Carolina. The Bremerton High School standout is a familiar name for the Huskies, who have had him on their radar for a while and hosted him for an official visit to Montlake on Sept. 27, 2025.

Davis, who is from Bremerton, Wash., is only an hour-long ferry ride from Seattle, and his profile has only grown. The 6-foot-4, 175-pound guard was Washington’s boys’ basketball Gatorade Player of the Year for the 2025-26 season after putting up 31.5 points, 9.6 rebounds, 5.8 steals and 5.2 assists per game while shooting 63.9% from the floor.

For now, On3 Sports’ prediction model gives Washington the slight edge at 23%. UCLA is next at 17.3%, followed by North Carolina at 14.4% and Gonzaga at 13.9%. Stanford had been listed with the second-best odds at 20.1%, but it did not make Davis’ final group.

The Huskies are trying to keep momentum rolling on the recruiting trail after landing their first commitment from the Class of 2027 on Tuesday. Four-star shooting guard Jimmie Haywood chose Washington over Nevada and Loyola Marymount.

Washington also came up short the same day with five-star small forward Malachi Jordan, the 20th-ranked player in the country according to the 247Sports composite.

There’s still a financial hurdle in the mix. UW is reportedly the lowest-ranked team in spending for its men’s basketball roster, and Davis is expected to have plenty of strong Name, Image, and Likeness offers. Even so, that didn’t stop the Huskies from getting Haywood, and they’ve clearly made a push to strengthen their recruiting operation this offseason with general manager Alex Kline and assistant coach Mike Mennenga.

Washington Veterans Just Sent A Message About That Nebraska Road Win

The conversation around Washingtons road win at Nebraska has centered on the defense, and two veterans helped explain why. Jacob Lane and Alex McLaughlin met with the media to break down how the Huskies handled a tough road environment, with McLaughlin putting the spotlight on the group effort behind his conference defensive honor rather than treating it as an individual moment.

Lane walked through the plan for limiting Nebraskas quarterback and said Washingtons discipline showed up in the way the defense executed from start to finish. McLaughlin echoed that theme, framing the performance as something built by the whole unit, which is exactly the kind of message a team wants to hear after a statement win away from home. Washington Fans Will Soon Get To Honor A True Program Great
