A few Huskies commits and targets got their seasons rolling this weekend, and one of the biggest names on the board made an early statement.
At Desert Edge, teammates Blake Rospkopf and Zerek Sidney both turned in strong opening performances against Cactus Shadows. Rospkopf, who is set to enroll early and also take part in the Army All American Game, threw for 416 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 INT. Sidney followed with 7 receptions for 142 yards and a 2 point conversion, a good start after he missed time last year with an illness.
The Huskies are also in the mix for Desert Edge edge rusher Jalanie George, a 5 star prospect in the 2028 class who is scheduled to visit Montlake next weekend for the Apple Cup. George opened his junior season with 8 tackles and 2 TFL’s, and Washington looks like one of the favorites for him right now.
Auburn, Ole Miss, Florida, and Miami are also in the hunt. Listed at 6’5” and around 240 pounds, George has the frame to develop into a future edge and should be able to handle college early once he arrives.
Another name to watch is Chaz Gray, the edge commit whose St Joseph Regional team fell to Mt Carmel HS in its season opener. Gray didn’t have official stats available, but he was disruptive and stout on the edge.
He’s listed at 6’4” and around 250 pounds, already carrying a college-ready build, and the Huskies are expecting him in Montlake in January. He may also try to make it out for the Apple Cup.
Gray’s younger brother, Tahj, is another major Washington target in the 2028 class. The Huskies are pushing hard there as well, with Ohio State applying serious pressure. Listed at 6’3” and around 230 pounds, Tahj Gray is a linebacker rated as the #1 linebacker in the country via his composite ranking.
Next weekend should bring a heavy run of visitors to campus for the Apple cup, and more intel on the major recruits is expected to follow.
