The Washington Huskies will have plenty going on at the Apple Cup on Sunday, and not just on the field. One of the biggest names in the building will be four-star tight end Tytan McNeal, the top player at his position in the Class of 2028.
McNeal, who plays at Eastside Catholic High School in Sammamish, Wash., is part of a busy run of official visits. After his stop in Montlake, he’s set to visit Oregon on Sept.
5, Auburn on Sept. 19, Cal on Oct.
10, Miami on Oct. 17, UCLA on Oct. 24 and Michigan on Nov.
The Huskies are trying to make the most of a weekend that carries weight in a few different ways. They enter Sunday’s game against Washington State ranked 17th in the Associated Press Top 25 poll and still in the mix for the College Football Playoff. There’s also the bigger-picture angle: the current Apple Cup contract between Washington and Washington State runs through 2028, which means this could be one of the last editions of the rivalry for the foreseeable future.
Washington will also be welcoming more than a dozen recruits for official visits.
McNeal stands 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds, and Rivals’ Industry Rankings lists him as the 55th-best player in the country, the top tight end in the class and the second-best player in Washington.
For now, On3 Sports’ prediction model does not favor the Huskies in his recruitment. Texas holds the best odds at 25.3%, followed by Oregon at 12.1% and Nebraska at 10.3%.
Still, a strong day in front of McNeal could help Washington get back into the conversation for one of the country’s best tight end prospects. That would fit a recruiting pattern under head coach Jedd Fisch, whose staff has landed the top recruit in Washington in three straight classes: linebacker Zaydrius Rainey-Sale in 2025, defensive lineman Derek Colman-Brusa in 2026 and defensive lineman Tevita Nonu in 2027.
