USC Faces A Brutal Offensive Setback With Washington Up Next

As the USC Trojans brace for a pivotal game against Washington, the team must navigate significant roster challenges following the season-ending injury to wide receiver Corey Simms.

USC will head into Saturday night’s matchup with Washington missing another piece of its offense, and this one looks like a season-long loss.

CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported that sophomore wide receiver Corey Simms is expected to miss the entire season because of a knee injury. Simms had opened the year as a starter and made an immediate impact, catching 12 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown across USC’s first four games against San Jose State, Fresno State, Louisiana, and Rutgers.

The injury picture around the Trojans’ receiver group is still shifting. Simms was already out for the Oregon game, and he showed up as out again on Friday’s Big Ten availability report. He was listed alongside safety Kendarius Reddick and offensive lineman Kilian O’Connor.

That leaves USC leaning harder on the rest of its wideout room as it tries to get back on track against Washington. The Trojans are coming off a loss to Oregon and now face a game that carries real weight for their College Football Playoff hopes in Lincoln Riley’s fifth season.

There is also uncertainty around another important target. Freshman wide receiver Trent Mosley is doubtful after missing the last two games against Rutgers and Oregon with a knee injury. If he can’t go, USC will need production from Kayden Dixon-Wyatt, Tanook Hines, Terrell Anderson, and Zacharyus Williams.

Dixon-Wyatt has been one of the bright spots in the passing game and figures to be central again. He has 25 catches for 372 yards and three touchdowns through four games, and he already showed what he can do in a big spot against Oregon. In USC’s 41-27 loss, he led the team with seven receptions for 114 yards and a touchdown.

That kind of performance would go a long way on Saturday night, when the Trojans try to snap a three-game skid in the series against Washington. USC has not beaten the Huskies since Nov. 12, 2016, but it will have a shot to change that at the Coliseum with quarterback Jayden Maiava leading the offense.

The other side of the ball will be tested, too. Washington quarterback Demond Williams Jr. has put up 1,129 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions through four games, while also leading the Huskies in rushing with 165 yards and two scores.

That dual threat could be a problem for a USC defense that has had trouble slowing the run in its last two games against Rutgers and Oregon.

USC enters the matchup as an 8.5-point favorite, according to DraftKings Sportsbook. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. PT, and the game will air on NBC.

Washington Let A Statement Win Slip Away At USC

Washington had enough going early at USC to make the trip feel like it could become a statement night, but the Huskies could not sustain it. They grabbed a lead, flashed a few strong individual efforts and made the Trojans work, yet the game kept turning on self-inflicted problems as penalties and inconsistent offense undercut the best stretches.

USC was ready to take advantage every time Washington slipped, and the missed chances piled up as the Huskies struggled to find any rhythm when it mattered most. What had looked like a chance to leave Los Angeles with a defining road win instead became another reminder of how slim the margin is when turnovers and penalties start deciding possession by possession. Oregon's Next Big Ten Stretch Suddenly Hinges On One Huge Question

Oregon heads into its bye week at 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the Big Ten after the kind of win that can reset a season, knocking off USC in a result that immediately changed the mood around the Ducks. The bigger storyline, though, is at quarterback, where Dante Moore left the game after taking a hit and backup Dylan Raiola stepped in and handled the offense well enough to keep Oregon moving at a key moment.

What happens next for the Ducks now rests on Moores health and how long this stretch becomes for the backup. Oregon is sorting through the fallout from the concussion, and with the teams Big Ten start already off to a strong opening, the uncertainty under center adds a layer of intrigue to the upcoming prediction-heavy portion of the schedule. Washington Recruiting Momentum Just Got A Boost Fans Will Notice

Washingtons recruiting backdrop is a little quieter this week as the Huskies get ready for a Friday game against Iowa, a schedule tweak that is expected to trim down the number of prospects on hand. Even so, there is still some real momentum worth noting around the program, especially with quarterback commit Blake Roskopf of Desert Edge High School in Arizona continuing to emerge as one of the more important pieces in the class.

Roskopfs profile keeps rising as he heads toward a chance to compete for playing time next year, and Washington still likes the shape of its quarterback room as it looks ahead. The bigger picture, though, is that the Huskies are still searching for their first commitment in the 2028 class and are expected to add more names later in the year, a reminder that the recruiting board remains active even as one Friday night in Seattle takes some of the spotlight away.
