Oregon Ducks Stun Washington Huskies by Snatching Top Defensive Recruit

Despite boosting their recruiting status to unprecedented heights, the Washington Huskies face a setback as four-star defensive lineman Zane Rowe chooses rival Oregon Ducks.

The Washington Huskies are on the verge of assembling their best recruiting class in program history, currently ranked seventh nationally according to 247Sports. This follows a stellar 2026 class that was ranked 12th, marking their highest achievement to date. However, the Huskies recently faced a setback on the recruiting trail.

Zane Rowe, a four-star defensive lineman, opted for the Oregon Ducks over Washington, despite predictions favoring the Huskies. Rowe, a standout talent from Denton, Texas, is listed as the 93rd overall player and ninth-best defensive lineman in the 2027 class. His decision came after attending Washington’s junior day, with Oregon, North Carolina, and Oklahoma also in the mix.

Rowe’s commitment to Oregon adds to the rivalry between the Ducks and Huskies, especially as both programs vie for top-tier talent. Other notable prospects considering both schools include four-star cornerback Josiah Molden and four-star quarterback Sione Kaho. Molden has deep ties to both programs, while Kaho is a local standout from Tacoma, Washington.

Currently, Washington's recruiting class is ranked above Oregon's, which is significant given the intense competition between these Pacific Northwest powerhouses. The Huskies, under the guidance of head coach Jedd Fisch, have been aggressive in their recruiting efforts, often targeting the same players as Oregon. Fisch’s reputation as a strong recruiter is well-earned, and landing prospects like Molden or Kaho could solidify Washington’s edge over their rivals.

The Huskies' ability to secure top talent is further exemplified by their success in flipping five-star offensive lineman Kodi Greene from Oregon in the 2026 class. As the recruiting battles continue, Washington aims to maintain its momentum and stay ahead in the rankings.
