Washington is back in the mix for one of the nation’s top offensive linemen, and this time the target comes out of Detroit-area powerhouse Cass Technical.
The Huskies have extended an offer to five-star offensive tackle Antijuan Wilkes Jr., who announced the news on his official “X” account Friday. At 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds, Wilkes is regarded as one of the elite tackles in the country, with the flexibility to line up on either side of the offensive line. According to the 247Sports Composite, he checks in as the No. 13 player in the nation, the top offensive tackle and the top player in Michigan.
Washington’s push for Wilkes fits the broader recruiting surge under head coach Jedd Fisch. Since Fisch took over, the Huskies have expanded their reach across the Pacific Northwest, Arizona, California, Texas and the East Coast, and that approach has already paid off. The 2026 class, which includes at least four players who could be consistent true freshmen starters this season, is ranked 12th nationally by 247Sports - the highest mark in program history.
The Huskies are also carrying momentum into the 2028 cycle. They’re currently projected to land one of the country’s premier edge rushers, Jalanie George, who plays at Desert Edge High School in Goodyear, Ariz. Fisch also has ties to two UW Class of ’27 recruits: four-star quarterback Blake Roskopf and three-star wide receiver Zerek Sidney.
But Washington isn’t limiting itself to the West and Southwest. The staff has been trying to build a foothold in the Midwest, and Cass Technical has become a clear point of emphasis.
The Huskies have already offered five-star quarterback Donald Tabron II and four-star wide receiver Mylan Griggs, though both appear to be trending elsewhere. Tabron is scheduled to announce his commitment Aug. 15 and seems heavily favored toward Texas A&M, while Griggs looks likely to stay home with Michigan.
Wilkes, meanwhile, appears to be leaning toward staying close to home as well. On3 Sports’ prediction model gives Michigan the best shot at 28.1%, followed by Michigan State at 24.6% and Ohio State at 11%. Missouri and Southern Mississippi are also making a run.
Still, Washington’s latest offer signals that the Huskies are not backing away from the battle. If nothing else, it shows the staff believes there’s room to make a late move for another blue-chip name from a school that’s become a real recruiting battleground.
