Former Washington receiver Ja’Lynn Polk has ended his football career after two seasons in the NFL.
Polk, who was drafted in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots, played his lone year in New England before his path took a sharp turn. He appeared in 14 games, made seven starts and finished with 12 catches for 87 yards and two touchdowns.
His rookie season was cut short after shoulder surgery on Aug. 21, 2025.
New England later sent Polk to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round pick and a 2028 seventh-round pick. He never got into a regular-season game for New Orleans, re-aggravated the shoulder and had another procedure. According to a post on "X" from NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Polk was placed on the reserve/retired list and stepped away from the game at 24 years old.
Polk’s college journey started at Texas Tech, where he arrived as a three-star receiver in the Class of 2020. He originally committed to the Red Raiders and played 10 games as a true freshman in 2020, earning spots on several All-Freshman lists before entering the transfer portal.
He finished the final three years of his college career at Washington, where he became a major piece of the Huskies’ offense. Over three seasons in Seattle, Polk played 31 games and totaled 115 receptions for 1,967 yards and 16 touchdowns. His biggest season came in 2023-24, when he caught 69 passes for 1,159 yards and nine touchdowns in 15 games, including the playoffs.
Polk’s exit comes as Washington heads into a season with College Football Playoff hopes under third-year head coach Jedd Fisch. Fisch took over after Washington’s loss to Michigan in the 2024 College Football Playoff championship game, while former coach Kalen DeBoer moved on to Alabama. After that title-game run, several of the Huskies’ top players either exhausted their eligibility, transferred or entered the NFL Draft.
