The Huskies are shaking things up on their coaching staff this season, opting not to appoint a designated offensive coordinator. Instead, Jedd Fisch will continue to call the shots offensively, a role he's embraced since taking the helm at Arizona in 2021.
In a fresh move for their special teams, the Huskies have brought in Brett Arkelian from Utah State to step in as an assistant special teams coach. Arkelian is stepping into the shoes of Greg Froelich, who has moved on to lead the special teams at Bowling Green.
With seven years of coaching experience under his belt, Arkelian is no stranger to the field. He kicked off his career at Tennessee in 2018 as an assistant safeties coach and has since made stops at Marshall, Virginia Tech, Rice, UC Davis, Fresno State, and New Mexico, gaining a wealth of experience in various roles.
The Huskies' coaching lineup is now a robust mix of talent, featuring Fisch as head coach, and a diverse team including Michael Switzer on the offensive line, Jordan Paopao with the tight ends, and Kevin Cummings overseeing wide receivers. On the defensive side, Ryan Walters commands as the defensive coordinator, with Jason Kaufusi focusing on the run game and defensive line.
Special teams will be under the guidance of Chris Petrilli, with Arkelian providing his expertise as an analyst. The strength and conditioning team, led by Tyler Owens, rounds out a comprehensive support system for the players.
As the Huskies gear up for their season opener against Washington State on September 5 at Husky Stadium, all eyes will be on how these strategic coaching moves translate to performance on the field. With Arkelian's addition, the Huskies are looking to bolster their special teams and make a strong impact from the start.
