With the 2026 football season now fewer than 50 days away, Washington’s September 6 home date against Washington State is getting closer by the day. As part of the countdown, it’s a good time to revisit some of the Huskies who wore the number tied to this spot on the calendar.
Deke Devers fits the profile of a classic Husky contributor from the mid-90s. He was a three-year letterman from 1993 through 1995 and served as a team captain as a senior.
By the time his Washington career was done, he had piled up 88 tackles, 23 tackles-for-loss and 13 sacks. His top season came in 1994, when he posted 45 tackles, 14 tackles-for-loss and seven sacks for a 7-4 team.
The coaches also praised his leadership during the coaching transition from Don James to Jim Lambright.
Owen Biddle’s path to Washington looked different, but it still ended in a long run in purple and gold. A Husky legacy with close ties to the university and the football program, he passed on offers from other schools to walk on at Washington.
He spent five seasons with the Huskies, earned a scholarship in 2001, and finished with four letters from 2000 through 2003. His career line included 109 tackles, two interceptions and one quarterback sack, with most of his work coming on special teams and in the secondary rotation.
Tristan Vizcaino’s route to Montlake brought in a little more late drama. Coming out of high school, he had offers from several Group of Five programs and Washington State, and he committed early to the Cougars.
But as signing day in 2014 approached, he flipped to Washington. Once he arrived, he first handled kickoff duties, then moved into punting and took over most of the punts during the Huskies’ 2016 playoff run.
That season, he averaged 40.7 yards on 51 punts, with six punts of more than 50 yards and three that went beyond 60. As a senior in 2017, he added place-kicking to his workload and went 12 for 19 with a long of 44.
Vizcaino’s football journey continued after Washington, though the NFL stops kept coming and going. He made his league debut on January 3, 2021, for the San Francisco 49ers and was perfect in a 26-23 win over the Seattle Seahawks, making all three field goals and both extra points.
He also appeared in one game for the New England Patriots in 2022, then joined Dallas again at the start of training camp in 2023 before being released before camp ended. He is not currently signed with any NFL squads.

Quimari Peterson has found his next basketball stop after wrapping up his lone season in Montlake, continuing a path that took him from East Tennessee State and Indiana State to Washington before his college eligibility ran out. The former Huskies guard is moving on to the professional ranks after a year in which he settled into a steady rotation role and gave Washington needed backcourt minutes during a season that never quite found its footing.
Petersons final college numbers reflected a different role than the one he had before arriving at Washington, but he still gave the Huskies a reliable presence on the perimeter and enough versatility to stay on the floor in key stretches. For a program that has already seen roster turnover pick up, his departure is another reminder of how quickly the back end of a rotation can change once a season ends and players start sorting out what comes next. 42 Days Until Kickoff And This Huskies Number Carries Real History
With 42 days left until Washington and Washington State kick off the 2026 season, the Huskies countdown has landed on a number with some real program weight. The No. 42 jersey has been worn by players who left a mark in very different eras, from Jay Barrys memorable burst in the early 1990s to Cory Littletons rise from overlooked recruit to standout linebacker in Seattle, and then on to the next wave of Huskies talent.
