What New Coordinator Sees In Jayden Daniels Should Matter To Commanders Fans

Can quarterback Jayden Daniels shake off last season's struggles and lead the Washington offense to success under new guidance?

David Blough hasn’t coached a game as Washington’s offensive coordinator yet, but he’s already offered Commanders fans a pretty encouraging read on Jayden Daniels.

Blough said Daniels has attacked the offseason with a different edge after what he called a frustrating 2025 campaign. The quarterback, coming off a “flawless ’24,” didn’t linger on the disappointment. Instead, Blough said Daniels turned it into fuel.

“I think he was incredibly frustrated with how '25 went after a flawless '24, and he was ready also for a new challenge,” Blough said.

That kind of response matters. Daniels could have spent the offseason stuck on what went wrong last year, but Blough’s comments suggest he treated it like a reset button. For a quarterback with Daniels’ talent, the next step is never about standing still.

Blough also made it clear that Daniels has been all-in on Washington’s new offensive approach. In their meetings, the quarterback has been receptive to every new idea and concept that’s been put in front of him.

“So the conversations that he and I have had, when we get to sit down and I get to present new concepts to him or new ideas or new operational ways to do things, he has just kind of grabbed it by the horns and ran with it,” Blough added. “I think it may look a little bit different than he's looked the last two years... you're going to see somebody who's deadly accurate, whose feet are on time and in rhythm.”

That last part is the real eyebrow-raiser. Blough isn’t just talking about Daniels getting back to where he was - he’s talking about a version of Daniels that could look different, sharper, and more in sync within the new system.

For Washington, that’s the kind of message that lands well. The Commanders aren’t just hoping Daniels rebounds from 2025. Based on Blough’s read, they believe he’s already pushing toward another leap.

Commanders Backfield Crunch Could Force Adam Peters Into An Early Move

The Commanders entered the summer with a backfield that suddenly looks crowded, and Jerome Ford is part of the reason why. After the offseason additions, Washington has more running backs than obvious roster spots, which has turned training camp into an early sorting exercise for Adam Peters and the front office. Ford was brought in as part of that mix, but he is now sitting low enough on the depth chart that his name has already started surfacing in trade chatter.

That kind of surplus usually forces a team to make a choice before final cuts, whether it means moving a player, keeping him as insurance, or risking a release. Washington also has other backs competing for the same limited room, so the next few weeks could reveal whether the Commanders see Ford as a useful depth piece or as an asset they can turn into something else before the roster gets trimmed. Commanders Fans Already Feared How This Tyler Biadasz Move Could Age

Tyler Biadaszs exit from Washington was always going to be one of those moves judged in real time, and the early returns from Los Angeles are the sort that make a decision age quickly. After being released by the Commanders, Biadasz landed with the Chargers and has reportedly settled in well, drawing positive reviews from the coaching staff during early offseason workouts as he gets acclimated to a new system.

For Washington, the center spot now shifts to Nick Allegretti and rookie Matt Gulbin, a combination that puts the focus squarely on how the line holds up without the veteran presence Biadasz provided. If he keeps trending up with the Chargers, the conversation around the Commanders choice to move on from him is only going to get louder, especially with the position still in the middle of its own reset.
