Van Jefferson Aims to Earn Jayden Daniels' Trust in Washington Debut

Newly-signed Commanders WR Van Jefferson focuses on building trust with QB Jayden Daniels by drawing on his NFL experience and dedication to teamwork.

Van Jefferson made quite the impression at his introductory press conference with the Washington Commanders, showcasing a blend of humility and determination that fans can appreciate. Jefferson knows the NFL is a tough business, and he's ready to prove himself. He confidently stated, "I see myself as a reliable target," but he also understands the process: "First, I have to earn the trust of the coaches, Jayden (Daniels), and my teammates."

Jefferson's journey to the NFL is rooted in a standout college career with the Florida Gators in 2019. That year, he was part of a dynamic offense led by quarterback Kyle Trask, who stepped up after Feleipe Franks' injury. Trask's 2,921 passing yards found their way to future NFL talents like Jefferson, tight end Kyle Pitts, and receiver Freddie Swain, under the guidance of coach Dan Mullen.

Jefferson is clear about the steps ahead: "There are stepping stones. I just got to be where my feet are and take it one day at a time. The goal is to earn the trust of everyone here."

A particularly memorable chapter in Jefferson's career came during his time with the Rams. Not only did he help the team secure a Super Bowl victory against the Bengals, but he also welcomed a new addition to his family the same day.

"Winning the Super Bowl and having a son on the same day is one of the best days of my life," Jefferson reflected. "It was a blur, but unforgettable."

Jefferson is no stranger to the grind. He knows building chemistry with Commanders QB Jayden Daniels will take time and effort.

"It takes a lot of throwing sessions, talking, and just building that rapport," he explained. "I'm here to put in that work with JD whenever he's ready."

Drafted 57th overall by the Rams in 2020, Jefferson has since played for the Falcons, Steelers, and Titans. His NFL roots run deep as the son of former receiver Shawn Jefferson, who had an impressive career with 470 receptions and 7,023 yards. Van Jefferson is ready to carve out his own legacy, one catch at a time.
