Tyreek Hill’s latest update is exactly the kind of thing that should make the Commanders pause before getting too attached to the idea of a splashy receiver move.
Washington has been tied to just about every big-name wideout this offseason, and Hill has been part of that conversation too. But the picture he painted in a recent workout video makes it hard to see him as a realistic answer for a team that needs help right away.
Hill said he is still working his way back from the dislocated knee and torn ACL that cost him nearly a full year and required two surgeries. He pointed to a possible return sometime in 2026, but also made clear that the injured left leg still isn’t where it needs to be.

I have no power in my left leg, so I'm trying to regain all the power back in my left leg. But it's one day at a time."
That’s the part Washington can’t ignore. Hill, at his peak, is a game-changing receiver and a five-time first-team All-Pro. But if the timeline stretches into the middle of the season or beyond, he stops being a quick fix and becomes a long wait.
And the Commanders don’t really have that luxury.
There’s pressure to start fast, and head coach Dan Quinn has to get through an early stretch before the bye week. If Washington survives that opening run and stays in the mix, then a later move for a player like Hill might make more sense. Right now, though, the urgency is too high to gamble on a receiver who still isn’t back to full strength.
General manager Adam Peters hasn’t shown his hand, and he could always wait until later in training camp or even deeper into the summer before making a move. That might open the door to other options, including players who become available later. But for Hill specifically, this update makes the fit feel shaky at best.
Once Hill is fully cleared, there will be no shortage of teams interested. A reunion with the Kansas City Chiefs would make sense on an emotional level, and other contenders would line up for a chance to add him. The catch is simple: they’ll want him healthy.
