Trey Amos is inching toward a return, but the Washington Commanders are still treating his recovery like a delicate balancing act.
The rookie cornerback hasn’t been seen working on the field this offseason as he comes back from a fractured fibula, and he’s also managing a soft tissue issue. That’s enough to explain why Washington has taken the cautious route with its 2025 second-round pick.
Head coach Dan Quinn said Thursday will be the next major checkpoint for Amos. Even so, getting him meaningful work over the summer still matters.
Washington’s patience is tied to the bigger picture. The team has already lived through an injury-heavy 2025, and while the situation around the roster looks better now, Amos’ health remains a key piece of the puzzle for the defense.
There is still more than a month before the Commanders open against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1, and that remains the target for Amos. If he needs a little more time before getting fully involved in camp, the Commanders are prepared to wait rather than risk a setback after getting this far.
