The Washington Commanders are in the middle of a reset, with a rough season behind them and a wave of new faces on both sides of the ball. Through all of that churn, two players have stayed steady: Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin.
Daniels has already flashed like one of the league’s top quarterbacks when healthy, and McLaurin remains the dependable WR1 at the top of the receiver room. For Luke McCaffrey, that kind of presence matters. The wide receiver recently went on 106.7 The Fan and talked about what both players bring to the team.
“Terry is such a great leader, and beyond that, he's such a great leader by example,” McCaffrey said. “It's a lot of fun to just be in that room and feed off of that energy.”
McLaurin’s importance only grows from here. He’s still the clear top option on the depth chart, but the group behind him doesn’t have much proven stability. McCaffrey, rookie Antonio Williams and old friend Dyami Brown are all in the mix for more targets as the Commanders look ahead to 2026.
McCaffrey also had praise for Daniels as he heads into his third season.
“From Day One, Jayden has been a leader on this team,” McCaffrey said. “Just being around him has helped me grow in appreciation for the mindset, the poise, and the focus that he has.”
That kind of consistency matters, especially after a down year. McLaurin and Daniels have remained the kind of personalities that can set the tone for everyone around them, and that’s especially important now that veteran voices like Von Miller and Bobby Wagner are no longer in the building.
With those leaders gone, the Commanders are leaning even more heavily on McLaurin and Daniels. Based on McCaffrey’s comments, both are handling that responsibility the way the team needs.
