Stefon Diggs keeps putting himself in the conversation for a Washington return, and one Commanders defender is now publicly helping his case.
After Diggs posted another workout video on social media, edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson jumped in with his own endorsement of a possible move to Washington. Diggs, who spent last season with Chaisson on the New England Patriots, answered the pitch with a simple reaction: “👀😈”
The connection makes sense. Both players were part of New England’s climb from also-rans to AFC champions before that run ended in the Super Bowl.
Washington then signed Chaisson in free agency, betting he can help fix a pass rush that has underperformed. Whether general manager Adam Peters feels the same way about Diggs is still unclear.
Diggs has made it known he wants to talk with the Commanders about a homecoming, but Peters has not moved on that request yet. The veteran receiver is still available, and he still believes he can line up as the league’s best No. 2 option. That claim is debatable, but there’s no question he would give Washington a boost as it tries to rebound in 2026.
There are also reasons for caution. Diggs still has one legal issue pending, and that alone could be enough to keep teams at arm’s length for now.
The Commanders also put a premium on character, which helps explain why chatter about San Francisco 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk has faded with each Instagram outburst. It may also be part of why Peters has not yet reached out to Diggs.
Of course, Washington could simply stand pat. There is confidence in the young receivers behind Terry McLaurin, even if most of them are either unproven or coming off career detours. David Blough’s new scheme is expected to fit their strengths, and if Peters, Blough and head coach Dan Quinn decide that group still needs more help, they can look outside.
If that happens, Diggs would be near the top of the list. Unlike Aiyuk, he’s available right now. If Washington decides he can stay locked in on football and won’t become a problem in the locker room, the move could make sense if the money lines up.
And if the Commanders do decide to go that route, Chaisson would probably be the happiest guy in the building.
