Diggs, though, has kept his attention on the task in front of him. Against the Dallas Cowboys, he was visibly trying to lift teammates on the sideline, and that effort became even more obvious once Daniels went down. It isn’t the emotional homecoming he pictured when he came back to Washington, but he’s not backing off the mission.
For now, the focus shifts to Marcus Mariota. The veteran backup is stepping into the void, and Diggs is making it clear that he has faith in him.

That kind of response probably isn’t a surprise to Adam Peters or Dan Quinn. When Washington evaluated what Diggs could bring, the feedback on his leadership was strong, including positive references from his time with the Houston Texans and New England Patriots. The maturity he’s shown now is part of what helped him land in Washington in the first place.
And the Commanders are seeing that version of him firsthand.
Diggs wants to win, and he wants everyone around him pulling in the same direction. That becomes even more important with Daniels out, because Mariota will need reliable targets who can separate quickly and help ease the pressure in the short and intermediate parts of the field. That’s exactly the kind of job Diggs can handle.
He’s been one of the most consistent and productive receivers of the last decade, and when a team needs somebody to steady the room, he can do that too. For Washington, that’s already showing up as value well beyond the contract he signed to join the team.
A younger Diggs may not have been as locked in on putting the team first. This version looks different. He’s older, sharper and more willing to carry the message as much as the production.
The Commanders came into the season hoping to make the postseason, and that path got tougher in a hurry. But Diggs is still pushing forward, and if that attitude spreads the way Washington needs it to, the locker room may be able to absorb the blow a little better.
