Rachaad White arrived with a real opening in front of him, the kind every new player hopes to find when camp begins. Washington still hasn’t landed a high-volume second receiver opposite Terry McLaurin, even after all the chatter around veterans like Brandon Aiyuk and Stefon Diggs.

White was pushed down the depth chart in Tampa Bay after Bucky Irving emerged, but he still brings value as a multi-purpose weapon. He has averaged 4.3 yards per carry in each of the last two seasons, and his production as a pass-catcher has been steady throughout his career. The 2022 third-round pick has caught at least 40 passes in all four of his NFL seasons, and there’s every reason to think that trend can continue in 2026.
There’s also a built-in comfort level here. White and quarterback Jayden Daniels were together at Arizona State, and now they reunite in an offense that should know how to use a back with his profile. With David Blough bringing experience from his time learning under Dan Campbell and Ben Johnson, White could end up filling something close to a D'Andre Swift-like role in Washington.
For White, the timing matters. Running back is a young man’s position, and plenty of backs fade once their rookie deals are done. That makes this season feel especially important for a player who may be staring at his best shot to become a featured piece in the NFL.
The snaps are there. The role is there.
